Summary: The monster inside Jasper lusts for human blood. When the desire is too strong to resist, there is only one who can help. Carlisle tamed this monster once, and now he must try again.

It took them five nights to reach New York on foot. They stopped in various small towns along the way to feed, and Jasper stole some new clothes so he didn’t have to continue wandering about in a bloodstained shirt. Now he wore dark jeans and a black t shirt, his hair shaggy and dirty from days of travel.

By the time they arrived at their destination, Jasper was starved. The city was smothered by sleepless humans, crawling along the streets and roads like ants.

Hunger rippled beneath his skin. James grabbed his arm, warning him to stay in control.

“I have to feed now.” Jasper spoke through gritted teeth.

“Hold your breath until we find a quiet place.”

Jasper did as he was told, his hands balling into fists at his sides.

He followed James through the streets, walking very close to the other vampire incase he suddenly snapped. He knew James could sense his hunger.

Turning a corner, they arrived in a quieter street.

Creeping into a small alley not far ahead, James told Jasper to wait there until he returned.

“Where are you going?”

“To get your dinner.”

Jasper growled. “I’m tired of you doing all the hunting. I want to find my own food.”

“Then learn to control yourself, and I will let you. Now wait here.”

“Fine. But be quick.”

“Any special requests?”

“Someone thick and juicy, preferably.”

James smiled. “I’ll be right back.”

While James was gone, a young, gaunt looking woman turned into the alley. Her bleached hair was knotted and oily, make-up smudged and lipstick too bright. She saw Jasper standing in the shadows and stopped, cautious at first. But then she smiled, pulling her shirt down to further expose her cleavage, batting her eyelashes and flipping her dirty locks of hair.

“Hey there, sugar.” She drawled. “You look awful lonely. Need some company?”

Jasper grinned, stepping forward. “As a matter of fact, I do.”

The woman came to stand before him, shamelessly invading every inch of his personal space, cupping his cheek with her bony hand. “What can I do for ya, sugar?”

“Anything you want.” Jasper whispered, turning their bodies and pressing her back into the wall.

She pulled her legs up around his waist, laughing. “How much ya got?”

“How much what?” Jasper brushed the hair away from her neck, leaning his head forward.

“Cash.”

“Enough.”

She laughed again as he sucked on her neck, pushing her hands under his shirt.

And then he bit down, covering her mouth with a hand before she screamed.

He drew blood quickly, not even feeling her scratch and hit as she struggled to get free.

It was over quickly.

He stepped away, letting her limp body slide to the ground.

Wiping any trace of blood from his lips, he waited for James.

Ten minutes later, James glided down the alley, the moonlight casting heavenly shadows across his face.

Next to him was a tall, muscular, thickly built man with dark skin. Jasper had no idea how James got such a man to follow him back here.

The second he was close enough, Jasper crouched then lunged, wrapping his body around the man, tearing at his neck enthusiastically.

As he drank, he kept his eyes open, staring at James as he watched with that arrogant, evil smirk on his face.

Once they had both fed, the two vampires set about exploring the city for the rest of the night.

At Jasper’s request, they entered a nightclub.

The music’s bass thundered in their ears.

Walls of bodies writhed around them, but the vampires slinked between them with ease.

Making their way to the opposite side of the room, they took a seat on a day-glow orange couch.

James draped an arm over Jasper’s shoulder, leaning in close to whisper in his ear. “We could have any one we want. Why don’t you take your pick.”

“I don’t want to kill anyone else right now, James. I just want to relax.”

“Well… that’s no fun.”

“Why don’t you dance?”

“With you?”

“No, not with me. For me.”

James tilted his head to the side, looking at Jasper curiously. “Okay.”

As he stood to move onto the floor, Jasper grabbed him by the wrist.

James snapped his head around. “What?”

“Dance with him.” Jasper nodded toward a young man at the edge of the dance floor. Tanned, lean and fit, shaggy blond hair and tight jeans.

James watched the boy for a minute, then smiled. “Your wish is my command.” He muttered, pulling free of Jasper’s hold, sauntering over to the young man.

Jasper leaned back, arms resting across the back of the couch, settling in for a good show.
