First a quote
“david seems to be going crazy with power, and unfortunately you were a victim (not to say that you were completely innocent either...;)”
Now some Rules and Regulations:
First things first, NRS uses a Student/Parent Handbook for 3 consecutive years... in this case 2003/2004/2005.
Fine Print (Page 1)
"If the school is to continue to grow, its policies, procedures, and regulations will need to be evaluated and changed from time to time to meet its growing and changing needs"
- So basically The Rules can change with growth of the school.... thats understandable -
- However, "...changed from time to time" Well ok. this is also reasonable.. but if this was the case then New Roads must have assummed this change would happen sometime between the 2003-2005 years...hence why its VALID for 3 years.
Also on (PAge 1)
"...No policy/guidelines statement contained in this handbook constitutes an enforceable contract between anyone and this institution, nor is the book exhaustive**"
** exhaustive
adj : very thorough; exhaustively complete; "an exhaustive study"; "made a thorough search"; "thoroughgoing research" [syn: thorough, thoroughgoing]
- Ok so now it states that the SPH (Student parent..) isn't complete which can be accepted considering they can't cover EVERYTHING... however things like Cheating, Ditching, Harassing, Bullying, Drug Abuse, Gang activity etc. ARE things that ANY school rule book should include considering they are the most common things associated with negative school behavior.
Final Print on PAge 1
"...NRS has the ABSOLUTE RIGHT to interpret AND CHANGE the ... guidelines of this handbook" The part that kills me! "...although we try not to."
- Another good legal thing to have...however Now we all just signed to a rule book that states simply that if the School Community wants to change anything...they could.... at their own discretion and... YOU cannot use it against them since it is not an 'enforceable contract'. OK so students are now in a school with 'beliefs and [should-be's] but never does it state that these ARE the rules.
The kids of ROBERT KUHAR
ok ok ok so the SPH does include something on "cheating" yay
page 29
Academic Honesty
- If the student is caught cheating , the student will earn a 0 on that exam or assignment
= Seems FAIR , you cheat you don't get credit
- Depending on the offense, the administration may FAIL a student. Students who fail a course because of academic dishonesty MAY NOT return to the school prior to repeating that course over summer.
= OK theres a chance of failing an entire course...depending on the offense being minor or major. Seems FAIR
- "Repeated Instances of cheating are grounds for immediate dismissal from the school" ......."At the discretion of the campus director and the Head of School" (David Bryan)
= So if you ...as it says "repeat" your ol' so horrible cheating habit ( Bad Children ) then you will be put on 'grounds' for immediate dismissal. A negative bad habit is not acceptable in any society or community if it is considered 'wrong'. At schools cheating IS wrong.. OK but...you have to have REPEATING offenses...got it!
Summary
So the kids of Robert Kuhar's class were - most of them - suspended for 'cheating' on his online assignments whereas you have to get 70% to get a 'passing' grade on that assignment. However, whatever the reason may be, students chose to use a form in which involved the use of the Right-Mouse-Button along with the dragging of the mouse pointer on the monitor followed by placement of the pointer over the "Back" option which would ultimately allow the student to use the "once revealed answer" in which he/she got wrong and 're-enter' that answer on the previous screen which.... was the same question they got wrong, only this time they have the answer and PRESTO! 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, 4/4 ......maybe get some wrong and finally 7/10 YES! CREDIT! for that particular practice assignment.
Is it really cheating????????? Clicking the back button when its available?
Well by inputing the correct answer into a problem on the computer IS legit because the computer only NEEEDS the correct answer in order to determine whether the question was correct or incorrect. (But this is a smart-ass comment)
So why did the students do this? To make it easier? Because they were lazy and didn't want to to work? Perhaps they felt that their Subject Course teacher hadn't throughly taught the online material that the students were taking? Or simply, the intelligent student, if posed with a problem he/she cannot answer knows through 'familiarality' of the online program that one may type in an incorrect answer to get the correct answer so that he/she may be able to work out the problem: backwards, visually, with an aid (answer)??
Truth is, odds are they didn't all do it for the same reason... people are different in both likes and dislikes and especially in thoughts (Vegitarians vs. Meat-consumers). So ok a group of these kids were 'suspended' for 'cheating' in which most likely not all of them were given a chance or opportunity to speak. So why not let one student's motive stand for all the other students since all students think alike
Fair?
Mr. Kuhar is known for his EXCELLENCE in the field of networking and computers... meaning he knows a LOT more than YOU do about the INTERNET and is able to connect two or more computers magically through a network. This NETWORK.... is all linked to a main super computer in which any and all activity can be observed by the man himself...or maybe even Joe Wise (They can do that... its stated in the SPH - but wait their allowed to change them.. .nvrm)
So Mr. Kuhar designed the program in which the students used to work on his math based questions on the NRS network.... Again..he "Designed" it or so rumor has it. So if he is able to connect two computers somehow through the complicated network process, then... he shoud or rather IS capable of disable certain scripts on anything he creates...since he made it.
In other words, the isolated bag of money was right in front of you....open.....wanna look inside?
The program was susceptible to "cheating" or review or anything because that option was available to students or... anyone.
If the general rule of testing applies as it does in such AP exams (neat way of testing), then students will not have the available rescources in the "proper" testing room to 'cheat' unless he/she is caught wandering eyes. So Kuhar's assignment wasn't made fool-proof.. the progammer is a big addition to this suit.

In response to EVELYN ...a 9th grader at NRHS
Evelyn says : "this shit is taken waaaay too seriously. According to the fucking student guide or whatever the fuck, first time= warning, second time= 3 day suspension, third time=expolsion . These fuckers are SKIPPING A STEP ....where is the fuckin WARNING! its my first...why am i getting suspended and fucking locked in school next year?! If rumors are true, then they are also just going ahead and expelling the people who already had a warning...wtf happened to going by the handbook fuckers?"
= OK evelyn....well...yes you are suspended.... and According to the Student parent handbook....wait... no.. sorry.. it DOESN'T STATE ANYWHERE in the SPH anything about this First time..second time.. third time... Although this would seem like a reasonable and rightful system to go by... It's nowhere to be found or proved because if its not in the Rule book then it can't be anywhere else! Perhaps someone lied to you? I dunno, but perhaps because it was said by the Head of School, it MUST be true and don't forget, the Head of School can at anytime change the policy on a rule book that doesn't necessarily stand legal.
They're not skipping a step.... and honestly WHY are you getting locked in the school next year? O I kno.. because according to the SPH you are no considered dishonest so now you cannot be trusted off-campus because you may be dishonest again and maybe not tell Mcdonalds that they gave you an extra .25 cents which would give your character a bad name. or your dishonestly could eventually spread to greater more punishable acts outside of school. -Isn't NRS personal with their students? I thought so... Do you feel like you are being evaluated right?
And as far as your friend(s) that have a possibility of getting expelled, (page 39) "... factors that will be considered: the scope and gravity of the particular instance, the significance of the assignment" Soo the assignment was.... hmm simply an assignment.. NOT a test, NOT an exam, NOT a final... an assignment.. ok your friends should be fine.. the significance of the assignment isn't too big. Their safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I dunno how the Students are goverened if the rules don't necessarily exist and the guidelines can change depending on the mind and thoughts of the Head of School. The Head of School is in charge of our rights and our privledges...... one man? one choice? Democracy? Or what about the RULE BOOK?
I almost forgot
paGE 1 - "You are expected to abide by the guidelines herein"
Page 1 - But... the SPH "It is provided as a matter of INFORMATION ONLY."
So there you go, its just information. Read it for fun if you want, but its just an 'idea' not necessarily imprinted as the "Written Rules and Policies" of New Roads High School
