It was fun reading all your thoughts. Raina, that's really awesome that you want to go to Miami. I know a lot of people think going out the the country is like the "real deal" of missions, but at the root of that attitude is really just selfishness. Don't get me wrong, I think God has definately called people to go out of our country and share the Gospel, but it's definately not THE ultimate way God will work. I think we can tend to have an attitude that God does the "big stuff" on the out of country trips, and He always DOES do incredible things there. But He has also been extremely faithful to our local churches. When I went to Sarasota last summer there was so much unity within our team and with their church. The unity that is built with the local churches is SO crucial! We couldn't step out into other countries if our ministry isn't all working in unity, with one direction and purpose.
I have heard of George Muller, he has an amazing story! I'm still not sure what I'll do about the letter writing thing. In a way NOT writing the letters can totally challenge you to trust God. There's also the possibilty that you can appear to be a money grubber, which is definately an image we don't want to put off. But at the same time I knew several people personally who HAVE sent letters, and said that people were so eager to help out. People who don't do missions trips themselves see it as a way they can help out, along with their prayers. I'm going to talk to my parents about it, and also my grandparents and Liz since they were so involved with the missions things. And definately PRAY about it.
I really don't know at this time where God wants me to go, or even IF He wants me to go. I know that I myself strongly desire to go, but if it would serve Him (and my parents) better to stay behind and help in other ways, then that's what I'll do. I'll be praying for all of you as you pray and make your own decisions! It's definately going to be awesome. And in the end, God's got EVERYTHING figured out already, so why worry?
