So it's been quite awhile since I've updated and I apologize lol but I guess I just haven't really felt like it. I don't remember when the last time I made an actual entry...but I'll make a quick over view going back to county try outs just to say I thought I did pretty bad on the solo but then was shocked that I made it!
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: Oh, thank you very much.
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once!
haha sorry I had to put that Casablanca reference in there because everytime I say I'm shocked I always think of Claude Rains saying "I'm shocked, shocked!"
ok so anyways. County was a lot of fun. I hated it last year. The music was hard ( I couldn't play a good bit of it) and I didnt really like the conductor. Plus the thing about county is that you get to go and play with serious people and not a lot of goof offs, last year I didn't feel like it was very serious. This year, I really liked the conductor, he was young, energetic and really good. We played good music challenging but doable. I felt the people were more serious plus I just thought we were in good surroundings. Woodmont High School is really nice! Plus these guys really direct! They just don't flail their fat arms around. Mom made the point of it being only two days and we still sounded really good. (I thought this year was a really good concert, last year I knew we sounded awful.) Granted these arm some of the best players in the county and some of the best instructors...but it's doable. We got it together in two days when EHS can't get it together in three months. It's really frustrating.
Garrison and I went out for Valentine's Day the Friday before V-day to Stax Grill. His gift to me was 2 dozen roses and I payed for dinner. I think it was about even. MMM if you ever go to the Grill def. get the stax trout. IT is DEEEEEVIIINE. mmmm. the trout with the sauce and the crab meat on top.
this past weekend I didn't do much. Garrison has a term paper due this friday so he's been a busy beaver. I watched ALOT of movies. One of my favorites that I watched was called Ball of Fire. There are these 8 scholars writing an encyclopedia. All of them are old except Gary Cooper. And all the old men are soo cute! There are so many funny lines. I watch movies and I'll think lines are funny and i'll just think it is but not really laugh but I was dying. It was so cute! Plus one of my favorites Barbara Stanwyck was in it and I love the fast talking actresses who know what's what lol.
Speaking of funny I'm reading the best book! It's called by "Our Hearts Were Young and Gay" by Cornlia Otis Skinner and Emily Kimbrough written in 1941. It's the memoirs of these two women when they went abroad together as teens. It's so funny! I love the way Skinner writes because it's so tongue-and-check and sophisticated yet revealing and hilarious!
Oh yeh and getting back to movies, I'm watching a movie on the life of George Gershwin and I've been humming "Rhapsody in Blue", "Somebody Loves Me" and "Embraceble You" for the past few days. lol I've always liked the man but I guess I've really developed a greater interest since I'm going through 821 hits on amazon looking at cds lol. We have a cd but I really want the singing with the songs because I like the words too. Just piano music takes something away.
It has been very warm! Well it has been warm 95% of the winter months this year but lately especially! I thought of how much it felt like last spring break this afternoon, a breeze yet warm. I keep hearing people talking about how cold it has been. Let me just ask, where are you people that it is so cold and direct me to it because I certainly have not thought it has been very cold this winter and I for one am very disappointed. To quote Rogers and Hammerstein "it might as well be spring!"
Oh yes, and I hate business computer with a passion. I hate Mr. Fox (BCA fox no math mr. fox lol I don't even have math fox he seems like a nice guy!) We were assigned a project TODAY which is due FRIDAY! aaaaaaaaaaaarg. I hate it.
