Can i just say how much i love snow. Even though it represents how cold it is outside, it is still very beautiful to see and really lightens my mood. But that will change after a month or two and then i'll get sick of it. But still it makes me want to have a cup of hot chocolate and peppermint schnopps and cozy next to the fire. that's if we were allowed to have a fire in the dorms.
Today is going to be my busy day. Skipped french this morning. I just didn't think of any reason to go. It's just a waste of time because seriously, i do not think i'm going to pass this class and i'm taking it again to get a better grade and understand it better. so bleh. Went to art history, and i love Grillo. He is the only professor that will ask why you were not in class last week and acually mean as a way of concern, rather than scorn. I gave him a good review :). ANd i got a B on my prelim. woohoo! but he thinks i can do better. i dunno, maybe i'll do better on the final and my paper.
But yeah, i have laundry in the dryer, i have my portfolio mostly figured out. I have to do a self evaulation, and my last drawing that shows a sense of time passing without the use of a clock or any time measuring devices. Which i think is going to be fun to do. But i'll be up all night doing it. bleh. I'm going to also find two new books for my art history paper to use to make it much longer, and do more research on it. I have week to do it, but i want to get a good start.
Today they were sticking up the senior art exhibit in Carneige. It was really interesting. There is this common motif this year of showing naked women, women with gapping vaginas, and porn that is mostly female. Not a single penis is shown in the exhibit. Now i understand were they are coming from, the explotation of the female body in advertising, porn, and art, but it's still interesting. If a nude female is depicted, it's art. When it's a male nude, it's porn. Now i get a sense of a double standard here. It's okay to point out how females are being treated in advertising by depicting them naked, but there is hardly anything going to how men are depicted. I don't care what anyone says about how it's all the men's fault, in the past it was their fault. But these days it is changing. Advertising is now starting to focus on a huge group of cosumers....the women. Now there are ads with big beefy men shown in all sorts of sexual situations. Okay, so if it's horrible to do that women, why is it okay for it be down to men. People say, well men can work out and be perfect, but women cannot. They have to starve themselves and practually kill themselves to attain a image of "perfection" that is set by our society and by the coporate world of advertising. Now there is something wrong with that. The men shown in advertising are a small percentage of the male population, such as the big boobed, tiny waist women are a small percentage of the female population. We are now creating standards that men must achieve to be seen as. ANd it's just as harmful. Men are now being more worried about their personal looks than other aspects. That could be a reason why young men in school are doing so horribly. Men are pumping themselves full of steriods, eating large amounts of food (an unhealthy amount), and working so much it is damaging their bodies. I was watching a special on television about how there is this new phenomina afoot that deals with men. It's like the opposite of anorexia. It's when a man looks at his body, and no matter how big they are, they see themselves as skinny. that is scary. I just baffales me. They seem to now focus on how women are being mistreated, that they don't see a surge of discrimination towards men. Now i do agree, we still need to work on how women are treated. They are not sexual objects, and they need to be treated with the same diginity as men do. But they need to broaden their views and see how advertising is harming everyone, and not just one part of the population.
There, now time for me to play Kingdom hearts until my laundry is done. :)
