The day was boring so far, without Ritsuko to hang out with Mattie found he had plenty of empty time. He had seen her once, at a shopping district with a bunch of girls he didn't know and surrounded by guys. Feeling out of place he left without a word. It could be very well possible that she had found a new guy but he couldn't move on until he figured out what went wrong. He could have asked Yumi or Rika flat out if she moved on but Yumi scared him and he didn't want to make things awkward with his friend Kasai. As for Rika he didn't really talk to her.
With all the free time he had for the day Mattie decided to take the time to officially clean his room. He litterly scrubbed it down and winced as he felt a bit of blood on his knee. It took his mind off of things and afterwards the soreness he felt actually was a relief to him. Finished he feed his iguanas before deciding to look at a random photo album he found in his room. Sitting on the ocean blue of his comforter of his western styled bed he opened it. He smiled as he figured out why he hadn't looked at it recently.
The first picture was of a really pretty blond girl, her hair in a short bob and huge blue eyes. It was a picture of his ex girlfriend Samantha and besides Rits the only other girl he had ever been serious about. She was like Mattie in every aspect sporty and a surfer at heart. They had fun together every day back in Australia but she like Ritsuko grew unhappy with Mattie. She seemed discontent and when he left for Japan she quickly ended it. On the cover of the book as a number scribbled in and he recognized it as hers.
There was someone he could ask after all, he didn't feel guilty for calling Sam. HIm and Ritsuko weren't dating at the moment so what was there to feel bad about. Using his cell phone and not thinking of the charges, he would pay his dad back later, Mattie called it. After a few short rings he heard Sam's heavily accented voice on the line. It took him awhile to realize what she was saying, so used to Japanese he almost got lost to her English.
"Sam, its me Mattie." The silence on the other end was surprising but then she got excited.
"Matthew?! How are you? I haven't talked to you in so long." Mattie smiled as he listened to her happy voice on the end.
"I have been better, I know you told me to call you if I needed anything but if this is too weird please tell me. I just got dumped." he gave a soft sigh.
"No its fine we decided to move on but I am sad but its not working out for you."
"I was just wondering since you dated me too if I was, I don't know I bit to slow? Its what was hinted as to the reason it all ended." Sam gave a shaky sigh in response.
"I will admit I got a bit bored with our pace but I understood your concern on keeping it slow. You didn't want to go so fast that it all burnt out but if you don't nourish that flame it will also flicker out." Mattie closed his eyes in frustration it made sense. He just wondered why Ritsuko had to end it all instead of just talking it out.
"Did you find someone to keep your flame lit?" he asked curious and he could almost hear the smirk in her voice. "Yes a couple of times a month too." Mattie laughed.
"I'm glad for you, and Sam thanks for your help. I will call you Christmas alright."
"I look forward to it and perk up or I will kick your ass in the next surfing a bit." she said smugly.
"You wish. Talk to you soon Sam." Mattie put his phone down and felt loads better. Now he just had to figure out if this all was still fixable after it all. He remember his conversation with Sawada Leo but didn't know where to start after all.
