I really like the word 'miscellany'. Which is why I keep making posts like this.

- BRIAN BLESSED HAS A TWITTER. THE FIRST TWEET IS IN CAPSLOCK. LIFE IS PERFECT. (For people who don't know who Brian Blessed is, uh. He's a VERY LOUD actor. I think he might be quite a good actor, actually, but I don't know, I've only seen him in gloriously silly stuff being gloriously silly. I LOVE HIM, AS DOES MOST OF THE POPULATION OF BRITAIN. Here he is being silly.)

- I should clarify, by the way, that I am not actually going to disappear! A lot of you were very sweetly saying goodbye on my last post (♥), BUT I AM STILL HERE. Just not as consistently as usual - I will still be posting and stuff (LIKE NOW >.>), but I will often miss things on my flist and may not reply to emails in quite such a timely manner.

Story behind it, via foxxcub:
Found in the December 2002 issue of B&W magazine, in an article about the man who took the picture, Horace Bristol; he was a member of a Navy unit of photographers, and thus ended up being on the plane the gunner was serving on, which was used to rescue people from Rabaul Bay (New Britain island, Papua New Guinea), when this occurred:

“…we got a call to pick up an airman who was down in the Bay. The Japanese were shooting at him from the island, and when they saw us they started shooting at us. The man who was shot down was temporarily blinded, so one of our crew stripped off his clothes and jumped in to bring him aboard. He couldn’t have swum very well wearing his boots and clothes. As soon as we could, we took off. We weren’t waiting around for anybody to put on formal clothes. We were being shot at and wanted to get the hell out of there. The naked man got back into his position at his gun in the blister of the plane.”

devildoll wrote a lovely pre-Clint/Coulson with that picture as the inspiration: 50,000 Unstoppable Watts. I RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY.

- I'm really, really into Genesis Elijah at the moment. There's a couple of lyrics of his from his track Never Get Over You that keep floating around my head: cah her daddy was a lying cheating bitch of a son, respect was tattooed on his chest but he couldn't give it to mum and it's like this, there isn't a thin line between love and hate, it's pretty fucking thick and you gotta be fucking thick to cross it, mate. His delivery is just amazing, incredibly raw, but his lyrics are brilliant as well. Here's his latest:

He's also got a really lovely track called Love Song. I can't give you the moon and the stars, they ain't mine to give to start with plus they look pretty good where they are. But what I can do is cook you good food, run you a bath, cover the room with candles and give you a massage.

Here's Never Get Over You, and here's Love Song. If you like them, everything he's released so far is knocking around the internet for free, I'll help you find them.

- Talking of
unfinishedidea, I was just gchatting with her earlier, and we got to talking about our fannish histories, and I realised again that mine is possibly a little... revealing? And also hilarious.

surexit: DUDE. DUDE.
I CAM INTO FANDOM THROUGH NIFTY.
I HAVE READ... OH, GOD.
zira: I DO NOT KNOW THIS NIFTY THAT YOU SPEAK OF
surexit: NIFTY.ORG
ORIGINAL GAY PORN.
WHEN I WAS TWELVE.
...
surexit: I MEAN, WE'RE TALKING PAEDOPHILIA, SCAT, EVERYTHING.
also, i think it explains a lot about me that i came to fandom because of the gay porn, not because i loved the canon. >.>
most entry stories i hear are about loving canon and then discovering this strange beast called slash?
and being surprised and oddly delighted.
...
surexit: whereas i was like, "well, this gay porn is intriguing. but very badly written. and occaisonally kind of scary. I WILL GOOGLE FOR MORE SOURCES OF GAY PORN."

So, yeah. FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, I WAS A 'CANON-OPTIONAL, PORN NOT' KIND OF FAN. ;____; I'M SORRY, GUYS.
