Another huge tragedy. sad. It makes everything else seem pointless.
My brother was in the Houston Astrodome helping out last Wednesday and Thursday. He said it was anarchy. 20,000 plus, mainly Black people that were bused in and left there. Not enough water, toilets, basic necessities. People were defecating in the middle of the Astrodome. Diseases everywhere b/c the flooding water is not just water, but a mixture of sewage and oil too. He said the Marshal Guard was coming...so hopefully they brought resources.
But, a news reporter with NPR that was at the Houston Astrodome on Friday said the Guards were not doing much. A woman died of asthma, and no Guard came running to help. When this reporter asked the Guard if he was suppose to help someone in this situation...he wasn't sure, then probably, then said he would check. Order over humanity. Priorities seem upside down.
Our school is accepting about 15 law students from Louisiana law schools for this semester. They even put up a support system for housing, books, etc. on the school website. Others law schools are doing this too. So, it's an national effort fo sho.
An interview with New Orleans Mayor Nagin last Thursday tells it like it is:

In Nina's other world:
I have this great fear that I have already overextended myself this semester. I'm in an overwhelmed state = paralysis and denial = no work gets done. No good. At least I'm studying with this super studier person this semester for one class, so she should keep me in line.
And...man funny how things change - at one point I can't stop thinking about that girl...and the next - everything just slides by the wayside to focus on school...when I am not in denial and procrastinating...like now.
