*Jane stares at her desk in her home. Upon it is an old lamp with a fine looking shade made from Anglan that was imported in. The wooden desk is made of cherry and has small animals on it depicting fairy tales and other stories. It's really a fine piece of work. On the desk sits various papers, some are work related, most are letters from all over ( Read more... )

Of course my dear, I will listen to anything you have to tell me and keep it confidential.

Chaser sighed and looked down at his plain leather bound journal. Jane was a woman with many troubles. He was sure she has something important to tell him.

*Jane stared at the journal and closed her eyes. She hoped that he didn't see her as a bad person.*

Father have you ever felt...happy that someone died?

I'm a priest I cannot feel that way about the passing of another soul. The only time I may feel that way is when someone who is suffering and cannot escape dies.

But I can understand that it is a feeling that people may experience, I have no doubt my niece would be pleased if her parents' killers were dead.

Chaser lent back and stared at the journal, he was wondering what it was Jane was so worried about, she clearly felt worried he would judge her for what she said.

Tell me what is on your mind, I will not judge you, that is a honor only God holds.

*Jane paused and took a breath before writing.*Father a few weeks ago just before Mr. Applegate arrived in town I recived a letter from a friend in the East. He informed me that while visiting a hospital to see a relation of his, he came across a name that shocked him. The name was of the man that killed my father. He was apparently in the hospital for a wound he got from another man he tried to attack and apparently it was fatal ( ... )

The VC would not suit a place like this. It is something Mr. Westonbirt and I often lock swords upon.

Brooke will not see you that way, he cares about you and trusts your judgment.

The man who killed your father will be hard to mourn, and perhaps you shouldn't have to. It is up to God now to judge him, in life there was no justice, but in Death our sins are judged against a will that is uncorruptable.

True, but it still, it hurt knowing that no one ever knew that he killed my father. And with him dead, I'm not sure what can push me forward now. I became a sheriff in the hopes of finding him, now I can't even do that. I don't want another child to go through what I went through, but I can't stop men from shooting one another. They have to want to do it. I know I can not force them, and that leads me to wonder if I am good for this profession anymore.
