Hi again
Someone posted a comment to one of my old posts, and so I went here - and realized I haven't posted to LJ for a full year. Did FB and twitter really take over my life.
I'm currently in Daejeon, Korea - I travel as much as always. Daejeon is a wonderful city, bustling and lively and full of friendly people - and despite the density here's lots of trees and a sense of open air around. Best of all, people are really friendly and helpful, so walking around time is a real pleasure. Haven't had time to see much except for conference facilities, research labs, university campus, and hotel rooms. But I have managed to find time to explore the city a bit, just walking up and down streets, looking at houses and people and shops, going to a few cafés, etc.
The research facilities here are impressive, in lots of areas. Maybe most impressive of all is the will to work together and share, the willingness to invest, and the commitment to translate those investments into excellence. People here want to be the best, and they'll put in the effort - w/o arrogance or superiority. I like it here, a lot.
