I don't understand how you can read emotion or thoughts or whatever in someone's eyes. =/
I've never read anything in eyes except what color they are ... and the fact that they look like eyes.
I determine emotion/thought/whatever by tone of voice, body language, and facial expression (which includes motion of eyelids and tightness of skin and muscle around the eye), the direction their eyes are looking ... but I never have gleaned anything from the eye itself.
=/ Has anyone experienced differently?
I begin to suspect that the use of eyes displaying all this awesome stuff is purely a writing tactic to simplify having to describe all that other stuff. "His eyes were staring hatefully at me" is simpler than saying "He was staring at me, his brows and mouth drawn down into a ferocious scowl, and his hands were fisted at his sides. I could only assume he hated me". Use of eyes totally simplifies the whole process.
I am still curious though, is it just me?
