My favourite off-kilter adaptation of an Austen book is Patricia Rozema's reworked version of Mansfield Park. I don't object to directors tweaking Austen's satire for contemporary sensibilities, just as long as they understand what it is being satirized.
Well, no, I just tend to get full of myself when I figure out something that I hadn't previously. And I guess you're right... Way to burst my genius bubble :P
