People ask me what I do for my degree, and I say archaeology, and I can see in their eyes: either me as Indiana Jones, or Mick Aston (with his funny jumpers).
It’s funny to be getting a degree in archaeology. People seem to look at you different, and you see the world differently. My friends and I went to go see the new Indiana Jones film a week and a half ago. We didn’t have high hopes for the film, because we love the first three so much. We were a little disappointed in the end, but wow, did we enjoy the geeky hints at archaeology. We had to study a little of Vera Gordon Childe in our courses, so we got the joke. It’s also strange that I also used the crystal skulls in a paper back in 2007(mostly about the media presentation of the skulls. That was a fun paper).
Yet I cannot go into a museum and not be critical. I cannot watch an archaeology documentary on the T.V. and not yell at it (which my boyfriend laughs at me for).
I wonder where this degree will take me. I suppose, like material culture, I will have wait until that horizon is uncovered.
