It's 9:37am local time. I'm sitting outside on the lanai on the 8th floor in the sun overlooking Pier 12. It's about 85 degrees, and below me the fishmarkets, produce stores, and shops in Chinatown are bustling. Across the harbor Coast Guard ship 716 patiently awaits orders as I patiently wait for my brother's girlfriend to come home.
My flight last night sucked. Aside from leaving nearly an hour late, there was an old fat man who took off his nasty shoes and started snoring before even taking off sitting behind me, and across the aisle was a family with three kids that wouldn't shut up the entire time. It was nice to finally get off the plane. It is strange though, leaving someplace you may not return to for a while. The goodbyes were hard; if I'd known how hard they were going to be I wouldn't have hung out with riverside friends the night before leaving. It was an awesome time, drinkin, even smoking cigars. I couldn't ask for better friends than those I have accumulated over the years in Riverside and Irvine. It finally hit me that I wouldn't see a lot of things and people for a while after saying bye to my dog before leaving for the airport. It hurt a lot, and in the interest of not turning into a fat sack of blubbering idiot, I'll stop there. I'd say that's been the hardest part so far. Even now I have a feeling of "what the hell have I done?" but hopefully it won't be too difficult to keep in touch with everybody, and we'll be meeting up soon. However, I'm confident that keeping in touch will come naturally, just because there's a lot of people who are a big part of my life out in California.
I think today we're going to go to my brother's shop, bring him lunch, hang out, see some people I met last time I was here, then maybe go to the DMV to get a Hawaii Driver's license. That way come monday I can start applying for jobs, get on the apartment lease, and get keys for the elevator. I'm not sure where I'll apply yet, there's a Best Buy not too far away, as well as a multitude of restaurants and bars in the vacinity. I may already have something set up in the future advertising and creating a website, selling, and minor assembly/repairs of mopeds for my brother's boss, who may be in the business of selling mopeds in the future as a side business, I'm not sure yet though, we'll have to see what happens. In the meantime, take care everyone.
