There are days you wake up feeling really good, with something positive from the night before to think about. When you finally make yourself clear, and other people get it, one in particular. You drink your strong coffee, and hand rolled cigarettes, and smile, read a little, your guitar, your well used washburn hollowbody guitar, isn't so much calling you the way it normally does, it sits in the corner, satisfied for the moment with the work you've done, almost making it clear it's alright if you rest for a little, let the ideas for new songs become enhanced through the process of daydreams, road trips, sleepy morning walks to buy cigarettes, and nights of drinking with friends and laughing, and falling in love again, getting hurt again, and rethinking shit again, working it out in verse-chorus poetry.
And then you're cleaning out the ancient reel to reel you intend to record your next album on even though you haven't even found a label to release the one you just recently completed, but if you're a young man, particularly an artist, there's no need for anxiety and there's no need to rush as long as you're working hard. That's my attitude anyway. Today at least.
