New York night...I'm too tired to count the Frank Sinatra references, but I'm sure there will be tons. Probably not as bad as last night's Elvis references, though.
Paula looks drunk. What else is new?
Carol Bayer Sager has had a *wee* bit of plastic surgery. At least enough to pay off my mortgage. But I like the songs she writes, so I need to quit whining.
And Paula is still drunk.
Ian Benardo - Gay. So very very gay. Hopefully he'll have some talent so I can root for the fabulously gay. However, given the clips from his "So You Say You Can Dance" audition, I hold very, very little hope. Wow, does this guy have ego. It's a bit creepy. Holy New York accent, too. And people complain about Southern accents WHY?????????? Okay, and anyone who brags about being in therapy on national TV? Okay, this is far worse than I anticipated. This is Judy Garland after many many years of drugs. Many. Many many. I do love his facial expressions. Oh, he is so about to attempt to school Simon. And it's so about to not work. Yeah. It's not working. And he's getting escorted about by security. Buh bye. His comments outside were funnier than his ones inside, though. Oh, and then he had to pull a sour grapes. He just doesn't stop talking. Maybe a future as a talk show host?
Sarah Burgess - Cute! Adorable, even. Her nose is very, very strange. She gets a sad backstory and she's cute - that's promising for her moving forward. Yup, good voice. Needs a bit of work on control and pacing, but that's stuff that can be improved. Simon's criticism is right, and I don't think she'll get super far, but she's worth a shot at Hollywood. Paula says she touched her. Simon is probably wishing she would touch him, in his no-no place.
Fanya Maria - Nice boobies. Big zit on chin however, which is more standout than her boobies. She's doing a song I like, but if not murdering it, she's at least maimed it thoroughly. At least she was nice about rejection.
Ashanti Johnson - I love the name Ashanti. This is her third audition, and she's been to Hollywood twice. I suppose thir time's the charm? Nice voice, but I don't think they're going to give her a third chance. Some of her higher notes aren't exactly right. I like her look, and she's cute, though. I feel badly for her. I'm not liking the mocking of her - she's a sweet girl, she's passionate...but I don't think it's going to make a difference. And it doesn't. Sorry sweetie.
The sleep montage was cute.
Amanda and Antonella - okay, if these aren't daddy's rich girls, I'm a monkey's uncle. Like, like, like I'm going to puke if they use the word 'like' one more time. Amanda's turn - Interesting shoes. They bring in both of them. The duet is a mess. Neither of them was awful, but didn't work well together. Okay, Amanda's turn. She's actually pretty good, although nothing spectacular. She makes it, but won't get as far. Okay, Antonella's turn. Very different style. I actually like her better. The higher range is probably not her thing. So she's through, too. Will be interesting to see what happens to them in Hollywood. I love Simon's Machiavellian advice. Heh.
Clifton Biddle - Definitely a New Englander rather than a New Yorker. Okay, what the hell is he gonna do? What was UP with those impressions? Just...weird. His affect is a bit strange. Ew, and it's another candidate for Satan's school of dentistry. For what it was, it wasn't bad, but it's completely the wrong style for this show. He's sort of trying to be Chris, but he doesn't have the Chris ability to pull off rock. The harmonica thing was cool. He took rejection pretty well, though.
Phillip Burton - Just scary, but he looks like he's trying. Sorry, guy.
Guy in spacesuit - Gimmicky much?
Jose Vadell - It's a smurf?
William Vander Stone - It's Pat!
Kia - Great energy, cute personality. Style needs some improvement. Voice is fantastic, should be through with no problem. Great intonation and pitching.
On to day 2...
Paula still looks drunk. No Simon right now.
Jenry B. - Definitely has a good look. I love the interactions with his mom. Great voice, this shouldn't be a problem. And he didn't pick a song that was too old for him, which is nice. And Paula looks like she's considering something that would give her 3 to 5. Paula Lateurneu much? He is very charismatic. And he's through. Yay for Jenry!
Nakia - Another candidate for Satan's school of dentistry. I like her energy, but I don't see this going far. Needs a more flattering outfit. Hair's cute though. Voice is passable, but I don't know that she's quite good enough. Love the energy! Her slower song isn't so great, but I think she's trainable. If Simon were here, she wouldn't get through, and I think she still won't - she's choking at the end. They were nice about letting her down, though.
Sarah Goldberg - Fashion don't. Voice don't. Sorry sweetie. Her story is cute, but she's delusional. Tad bit crazy. I don't think she's taken her meds today. That whole scene was just bizarre. Does Satan have a school of psychiatry?
Simon finally shows up.
Antonio - Here's our Frank Sinatra reference. Added to the fact that he's gotta be 40, he also can't sing. Does he realize there's a K in New YorK? Err...
Jory - Cute! Simon looks like he wants to bone her. Voice is nice. Shirt needs to go away. Easily to Hollywood.
Porcelana - The American Idol soldier, huh? Well, it's pretty obvious this will be a no, just from the backstory. I think she may be family though. The look is cute. Okay, maybe not a no. She's a good singer. However, I'm not sure she's the right style of singer for this. Definitely unique. Don't think she'll get too far.
Ooh, and Simon and Paula drama is forthcoming!
The name skit is stupid.
Christopher Henry - He *does* look a bit like both Simon and George Michael. Definitely family, and sings like family. Unfortunately, but this audition, that's not a good thing. He's a freaking first soprano! Wow! He's actually good at it, but he's so wrong for this show. At least he realizes that his voice is different. And here's the Simon/Paula drama. Poor kid.
Rachel Zevita - Opera student, huh? Probably means the voice will be wrong. Her look reminds me of me in high school - you all can feel free to laugh at me now, I know. Very powerful voice, but I'm not sure that she's right for the competition. She is, indeed an opera singer, and I think that's really her forte. Very versatile. This should be interesting to watch her in Hollywood.
All Night Long montage - very scary stuff. Especially the screeching Eminem wanna be and the Kermit impressionist. I love the ones who completely mutilate it!
Chrisopher Richardson - Great voice. Should be through with no problems. And they're right - the girls are going to love him.
bad singer montage...
Nicholas Pedro - Dropout from last year. Couldn't remember his lyrics last time - will this time be better? Great voice. Through with no problem.
Isadora - They've been building up to this, so clearly she's going to suck. Her look is...unique...but not necessarily in a good way. She's obviously very very nervous. Annnnnd she's atrocious...breathy, jangly, bizarre singing, and she's practically having an orgasm on stage. Someone else who apparently didn't take their meds today. Not even recognizable as Lady Marmalade...that was just freaky. And now trying to be Janis Joplin??? I love the judges' faces.
And next week we go to Birmingham....hmm...
