Ruby pressed her fingers to her temples and sighed heavily, casting a sidelong glance at Sam. He caught her gaze and dropped his hand to the desk with an apologetic smile and a shrug.
"If you don't stop picking at that bandage..." She warned, exasperated.
"The tape itches."
"I could superglue it."
"No thanks."
"Staples?"
"Huh-uh. Why don't you find something to do besides pace?"
"I'm not big on research."
Ruby stared out the window at the softball-sized hail. A crushed skull might be the end of this body, but picking that damn bandage might be the end of Sam.
