Review: SGA 412 "Spoils of War"

Jan 15, 2008 10:00

Snowed last night and then froze hard, and nobody in the PNW knows how to drive in this, so I'm working from home today, w00t! Just made myself a cup of tea (Lyon's that my friend's aunt brought me from Ireland), and had a cranberry orange muffin. This is the life!

I'm kinda late with this, but I had a couple of thoughts on SGA 4.12: Spoils of War...

  • I actually like how they are writing the Teyla and John dealing-with-the-pregnancy storyline. They both have valid points. They are both acting completely in character. It feels very real. Go writers! I'm actually impressed.
  • When they first start talking about the tracking device, Rodney makes it sound like they gave Todd the tracker like a.. a present. Like it was a voluntary thing. But then when they find it on the abandoned Wraith ship Rodney says "someone cut it out of him". Hmm. And Todd was betrayed by his second, the Cotton Candy Haired WraithTM, who would have known to destroy the tracker when he was taking over the ship. So, um, when did Todd have the chance to cut out the tracker? And who did it? Weird. Also, I'm a little OCD about details aren't I? Huh, OK then.
  • Hee hee, the powerbar scene and "Apricot Jubilee". God, I love Lorne. Also,
Rodney: You touched something, didn't you.
Ronon: No. (pause) Maybe just a little.

Hahaha! I am totally in love with the Rodney/Ronon interaction. The last couple of eps have had Ronon manhandling Rodney by his tac vest, and it's just *hilarious* and strangely hot.

  • OK the drone wraith (born with their little face mask thing) are a lot like the Kull warriors that Anubis built. Remember when SG1 captured one and took its mask off and it was all pale and deformed like that? They are clones too - the wraith warriors.
  • Ronon's face when he discovers the "pod room" - JM is hot like burning. I'm just sayin'.
  • Teyla having a baby vs. wraith babies. Yes, I see how you did that, SG writers. Very subtle parallelism.
  • Cotton Candy Haired WraithTM makes me laugh. How do his fellow wraith take him seriously with hair like that?
  • Lorne and his "I didn't even know you were dating anyone." Really, his and Teyla's whole conversation is adorkable. When Teyla says "I'm not really sure what to expect," you know his mind totally went here: as soon as they got back to Atlanis, he was SO MUCH finding a way to order What to Expect When You Are Expecting for her. Which made me think of JoJo's classic and hilarious fic where Teal'c gives "The Book" to Jack (and Sam).  Author deleted her archive, and link is from Wayback Machine, so some of the formatting is wonky.

In summary, I quite liked this episode. Also, there was a car commercial (Mercury, I think?) that played during this ep, and I swear the woman in it is Larrin, you know, from Travelers and BAMSR. Yes? No? I'm too lazy to look it up.
