Here are a few things I always use when working on computers. Not a day goes by where I do not use one of these tools. Hopefully you find them helpful. And these are all free.
1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
This program scans your computer for spyware and removes it. Uninstall Spybot and Addaware. This is all you will ever need. It can scan multiple drives at once, including network drives.
A few things things you should know before running:
* This will work for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista (32-bit and 64-bit).
* Be sure to update the software every time before you run it. There are updates added daily.
* For very badly infected computers I find that running it in Safe Mode with Network support works best.

Is a great program. It scans your computer for malware and spyware and removes them for you. Then it creates a log of everything, including anything it could not remove itself so that you can attempt to remove it manually. It can also correct some operating system issues for you too.
A few things things you should know before running:
* While I use this quite often, I have seen it make some problems worse. If you are having serious operating system issues, I would suggest you not run Combofix.
* Running this program in Safe Mode if possible is best.
* Close all open Windows including this one.
* Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix. Instructions on disabling these type of programs can be found in this topic.
* This will NOT run on Vista 64 bit.

To some of you this may seem like a no brainer, but these two programs can really improve the performance of a computer when ran regularly.
4. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
This program is very helpful if you are having problems installing or uninstalling another program.
