HOLY FUCK!

Walt Disney Buys Marvel Comics for $4 billion!

Actually the first thing I thought of was, 'hey, that means they're going to close Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal Studios'. That's like Graceland to my people. On the other hand - Super Hero Land at Walt Disney World! YES! ... In like fifteen years maybe ( Read more... )

It means a great MANY things, in fact. I'll be the first to admit that I'm just scratching the surface!

At this point Disney executives say that they have no desire to mess with creative control. They have a good track record! Plus - imagine a Pixar/Marvel teamup! The Incredibles meets Fantastic Four, homes! We can either take Disney at their word or assume the worst - I, for one, am willing to entertain the possibility that this will open more doors than it closes.

In my opinion, it was going to happen eventually. Marvel just has way too many potentially lucrative properties to be ignored, especially considering the success of Iron Man, the Dark Knight, Spider-Man, etc. So my question - would you rather Marvel got bought by, say, Viacom? General Electric? FOX MEDIA?! I say no way sir! If it's a choice between Jerry Iger's nephew or Rupert Murdoch, I say keep it in the family.

the dark knight is not a part of Marvel's franchises. Warner brothers right there, sir.

I was referring to the success of movies in the superhero genre in general, sir, of which no conversation is complete without a mention of The Dark Knight. Superhero moviemaking has proven to be a successful investment no matter who's characters one is using and Disney recognizes this in their acquisition of Marvel. I must insist, sir, that if you cannot follow the gist of civilized conversation, you go back to the ilovefurrymanbanging.com forums from whence you came! ;P
