Down the long driveway the car picked up little pebbles that made a small racket and shot clouds of brownish red dust from all sides. It was still loud enough to wake Clark from his long nap. He yawned and rubbed his neck in the most adorable way.
Although Lex had to admit he was biased.
“We’re here, Sleeping Beauty.” Lex said.
“Good.” He yawned again, more refreshed, but he still seemed like he was needing more than a few hours to gain back his energy to full capacity.
The yellow butter house stood on the backdrop of growing deep green stalks, not quite ripe enough for picking yet. In the fields a herd of spotted bovines were feeding peacefully. The quiet air when they opened the doors was cool and fresh, free of the usual under tinge of smoke and noise pollution.
Jace grabbed a hold of Clark’s arm, and before Lex could add another illegal act to his things to do list, they heard a feminine voice.
“They’re here, Jonathan.” Martha Kent came to meet them on the porch.
“Just a minute, Martha!” A shout came from somewhere inside the house.
“Clark, you look well. You too, Lex.” The auburn haired woman gave her son a big hug. Lex was surprised to get the same.
“You look better than ever, in fact. Has Clark finally helped you work up a healthy appetite?”
Clark blushed slightly, and Jace took a step closer to his boyfriend in concern. He gave Lex a shrewd gaze.
Lex quickly shoved any suggestive thoughts down into the center of the earth.
“He reminds me to eat.”
Clark playfully poked him in the ribs.
“Always nice to have a reminder.”
“Indeed.”
He didn’t bother to hide his smile and for a few glorious stolen seconds he held Clark’s eyes.
He held it as long as it was polite, then a few seconds more just to irk the man that was still clutching his friend’s arm. Jace frowned, but changed to a polite smile lightening fast when stepping forward and introducing himself.
“Oh, and you must be Jace.” Martha held out her hand.
“I’m Clark’s boyfriend, Jace.” The pony tailed man kissed Martha’s hand.
“I’m glad to finally meet you. Welcome to our home.”
“Gotcha!” A voice shouted in triumph.
Onto the steps padded the tall farmer Jonathan with a leisurely smile. He had nothing in his hands to indicate what he had wanted to find.
“Dear, did you get what you were looking for??
“Yup. Give your old man a hug, Clark.” Shit eating grin.
Another big reaffirmation of a family moment. But Lex didn’t mind it so much any more, not feeling quite so separate from the group with Martha and Clark’s support.
He had to work to keep any emotion off his face when Jonathan stepped over and patted him heartily on the back.
“Lex. Not looking so scrawny these days. Guess Clark finally held you down and got some meat on them bones!”
Clark was studying his feet from Lex’s hasty glance.
Again, Lex mentally slapped his inner pervert.
“Thank you, Mr. Kent. I trust you’ve been well.”
“No stalkers, no giant killer mutant fluffy bunnies, yeah, I’d say it’s been pretty quiet around these parts. Other than some prank callers, it’s been fresh air and relaxization.” He winked, and Lex felt his stomach drop.
He knew about the whole thing.
“Ah, take it easy. I owe you a lot more revenging than that after all I’ve put you through over the years.”
Lex breathed again.
“Though you can always muck out the cow stalls if you feel guilty enough.”
“John!” Martha chastised.
“Kidding.” Jonathan scratched his head bashfully.
“I’m Jace.” Jace said a little impatiently.
“Hold your horses, mister.”
Jonathan went from embarrassed to stone faced upon hearing from the other man. It rather impressed Lex that the older man was capable of such a feat, but then saw the cracks of old worry and something else imprinted there. He took his time scrutinizing the young blond man up and down as if he were inspecting milk on an assembly line.
Whatever he saw, much to Lex’s inner glee, mad him want to write down on a giant clipboard the grade ‘F’ with a thick pen in red ink.
“I’m Jonathan.” He still held out his big hand to shake.
Lex went through that crushing grip before and did not envy his foe.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Clark’s boyfriend.” He said officially, hiding too slowly the wince behind the shake.
“That reminds me. I found Miss Sally.” Jonathan kept shaking.
“Who’s she?” Jace asked.
“My shot gun. She’s gett’en on up there in years, but if you make her mad by hurting Clark, she can still put a fist sized hole through you as well as the day she was bought.”
Lex put on another, however unexpected, tally.
The Poor Richard's Almanac enemy of my Clark stealing enemy is my new best friend.

Dinner went well, especially after he made Clark spill his grape juice onto Jace when the man tried for a quick grope under the table.
“I’m stuffed!” Clark exclaimed after the grand home made dinner starring Martha’s pork chops, green beans, with mash potatoes and gravy.
Add cherry pie and Clark was in seventh heaven. He rubbed his stomach and it gurgled happily.
Lex hated the thought of getting up and going anywhere, but it was getting late. He needed to drive back to the mansion for the night. Jonathan giving the other man the evil eye was quite reassuring that he wouldn’t be leaving his friend to the blonde’s tender mercies.
“Where are you going, Lex?” He heard from Clark as he headed to the coat rack in the front.”
“I need to drive back to the mansion. It’s getting a bit too dark outside.”
Clark sighed, “I didn’t realize the time.”
“I can stay. You’ve got a bed, right?” Jace interjected.
I will kill you. Very slowly. With a spoon.
“Only one. You can sleep in the loft, but it gets pretty cold in nights like these.” Clark answered cheerfully innocent.
Jace made a muttering sound.
Be thankful for your stay of execution.
“Where’s the nearest hotel?”
“In town, but I’m sure we could get you some extra blankets.”
Not on my watch.
“Maybe I can be of some assistance?” Lex asked rhetorically.
Clark whapped his forehead.
“Of course. You’d don’t mind putting up Jace for the night?”
“Not a problem. As long as he doesn’t mind invisible murderers on the loose.”
“What?” Jace asked.
“Nothing. I’ve got plenty of guest rooms.”
Jace was more than suspicious of him by this time at such a generous offer, as Lex had never before gone out of his way to do something for him. But he didn't turn down the offer, probably thinking he had to be friendly since he was Clark's best friend.
“Thanks, Lex. You’re not such a bad guy.”
He grinned at Lex when they got to the car.
“This will be even easier than I thought. You have big beds, right?”
Big things of all kinds, we Luthors have.
"Sizable, yes."
"Wonderful. Everything has to be perfect for our special night." Jace closed his eyes.
"A romantic interlude?"
"Yeah. But it has to be perfect to show him how I really feel." Jace emphasized the adjective.
"Don't worry. I'm sure it will be."
"Really? I didn't know you were rooting me on." The younger man shrugged.
"However could I not?"
And it would be a perfect date, Lex promised himself.
Perfectly monsterous.
