The day started out like any other.
Lex dressed, put on a favorite smirk, and eagerly went in to join his friend for breakfast. As usual, his companion looked more appetizing than any meal he could come up with. He and Clark shared a greeting and Lex had his usual split seconds to stare at his butt as he reached for cereal.
Lex had some toast and coffee, very black, but with a tablespoon of sugar.
Jace called, and Clark apologized for missing their date.
Lex added another number to his very top secret and illegal list of how to get rid of him. Quietly. Without leaving any evidence.
They trade some news and innuendo until he leaves.
A typical day.
He admires the two hundred story LexCorp buildings that are his offices and castle on his drive in. The pillars that are a testament to his strength. Steel towers and mighty rods of power. To his will to overcome the odds and strive on to create something great. A little piece of immortality that will live on after he has left this plane of existence and humanity behind.
Apparently the birds were not so impressed.
The twenty third and fourth story windows need to be washed.
He decidedly did not look up as he walked into the building.
Making that note to those at the front desk he went to the elevator.
The elevator music had to be either classical or 80s punk at his expressive insistance. Any hint of opera, his father’s favorite category, was expressly forbidden.
He didn’t notice his secretary Violet as he strolled to his office.
That should have been his first clue.
He opened his doors and stepped in.
His chair was spinning around and around madly behind his desk.
And shrieking.
This has to be karma for what I did to Clark.
Lex finally got close enough to see the reason for this unusual reaction.
A dark haired, curly headed boy stuck out his tongue at him.
“HALT! WHO GOES THERE?”
“Lex.” Lex said without thinking.
“Oh.”
The little boy jumped off the chair and ran up to him.
And saluted him.
“Cadet Lorne Thompson ready for duty!”
Violet’s son.
“Where’s your mother?”
“At the spa. She found a sucker. I mean, babysitter.”
“Really? Then what are you doing here?”
“Want to hear how loud I can scream?”
He heard the clearing of a voice.
“Hey, Lex.”
Clark’s grin and shrug framed the door.
“This is gonna be fun.”
Lorne gleefully pulled down Clark’s too old baggy jeans before he could react.
I couldn’t agree more.
