Went to Boston to visit two colleges... I warn you... this may be very long and un-interesting... but here goes
My dad and I left friday morning a little after 4 am. My dad let me drive his (crappy) Pontiac stick shift. Got to try driving on the highway in a standard for the first time.. which wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Surprisingly the highway wasnt all that empty. I finally found it hard to stay awake near the end of ct (when we'd have to switch wny ways) so my dad drove. I eventually fellasleep for 30 or 40 minutes and woke up in Boston.
Its a really cool city, I havent been there in a long time. Definitly could live there for 4 years. I really like their subway system... not sure why kinda un-effecient compaired to ny's but interesting.
We went to north eastern university and I went to a "building bridges" workshop thing which wasnt as good as I was hoping. I got to try 3 different activities throughout the day: 1 was about i'm not sure what kind of engineering but it was about magnetism, 1 was about electrical engineering (we build a nightlight) and one was about civil engineering (learned about the engineering of everyday structures... got to see a machine that broke concrete and mesured the force to do so and then we played with a program that you could enter data for a structure and then remove parts and see how they effected it, etc.) The program was kinda aimed at engineering in case you didnt notice. They had some really cool labs.. but so do alot of colleges. Dont think I'm going to apply there. I still may be enterested in electrical entineering but i'm not sure. Aafter the program ended (around 2:45) my dad and I took a tour of the campus. A nice campus in the middle of boston.
We went to our hotel room and decided to go out and see a play my mom heard about. "Shear Madness", the 1st 2nd and 3rd running non-musical in American theatre in ny, boston, and somewhere else (hence the 1st second and 3rd). It was really funny... it was about a murder mystery with a stereotypical gay guy as the main character (the barber). And the audience gets to participate in a really cool way... but i'm not going to tell you how... you have to see it ($38). Oh and it was a cabarett style theatre though we didnt get a table... I think a group of like 40 women from curves i think took up our row. But I definitly would recomend it and I want to see it again (it can be a different endng every night... I hope that doesent ruin anything)...though your not supposed ot know that till the end... oops.
Took the T back to our hotel room. Saturday we went to visit Emmerson which is right in the middle of the theatre district. We were able to take a really good 2 hour tour... I definitly want to go there now.
A long advertisement for Emmerson:
They have 2 departments: the preforming arts school and the communications school. If you dont like either of these things ie-you want to major in math.... dont even bother to apply to emmerson.
They have state of the art technology in both departments. The preforming arts department has the only broadway style theatre in a college the U.S. which is...definitly a broadway quality theatre and more... enough said. They also have atleast 2 other small theatres in the shcool.
The communications school is probably what sold me on emmerson... (having both schools in one). They have top of the line equipment in new facilities... for most internships at any other tv or radio station the equipment they get to use is usually a step down from what students get to use on campus every day. Any student can use any of the facilities regardless of year or major so a theatre major can be a camera or control room or anchor guy in the communications shcool if they want to. They also had a bunch of other definitly high end things that I'm not going to try to explain because I couldnt do them justice...
For their collge cctv station the source that they get their news from is the industry standard. So when CNN gets their live news... the same second an emmerson student can get the same information from the same source. Also in some of their tv studios they have remote controlled cameras so if you want to be an anchor you dont have to worry about camera people.. they can be controlled from another room far away
Random facts about emmerson:
was rated one of the most "wired campuses"
it has the number one college radiostation that I believe can be heard in any of the surrounding states on 88.9 or online
I forget what they said about the on campus tv networks but believe it or not... *insert some amazing fact here*...yeah.... never would have guessed would you
Their Cutler Majestic theatre (the one I was talking about before) guarentees students a chance to work with put on there including touring broadway level shows. and they have the largest 100% student produced show put on.. which is their version of the emmys. it takes 14 months and has a budget of $1 million...red carpet... standard 8 camera emmy set up... limmos..etc
Sorry if that was just one long entry about Emmerson... though I dont think I have to worry since probably not to many read this journal.
The End
P.S I want to go back to Boston...nothing to do here whos with me?
