Adventures in snowland

Dec 23, 2008 13:52

I just locked myself out my aunt's house. She's gone to Birmingham (45 minutes away) to deal with my grandmother and I stayed home to get some work done. So I popped outside for a minute after carefully unlocking the deadbolt...and as I closed the door I realised I hadn't unlocked the second lock. So I panickedly ran around the house (in three feet of snow) trying to find an open window. Calmed down (after calling M) and called her ex H. Who might have had a key, but didn't answer the phone, so who knows? Then tried my grandmother's house. But of course my grandmother had a hair appointment at 1:30 so they were out. My aunt never leaves her cell on, though I tried that anyway.

So I resigned myself to waiting and freezing. After having M check in my email if I had any other numbers for H. Nada. Finally a man came out and started scraping his car so I ran over and asked if he knew were the super was. The super? Out. BUT the little old people in the house next to the super's apparently collect all the keys in the condo-area. So, voila, I was admitted entrance into their WARM home while they figured out a) who I was and b) which key might be hers. After a heart-stopping moment where Mr. Awesome wasn't sure he had her key, he discovered it. Meanwhile Mrs. Awesome had been telling me about her redhaired niece who also lives in NY. Finally I had key and entrance to OWN HOUSE. Now am curled up around space heater again feeling silly and kind of hilarious.

Family comes tomorrow. Apparently so does snow storm. (Well according to paper that starts tonight.)
