FLAT!

Apr 23, 2006 16:09

So my roomate is moving out in August and needs someone to take over her room/part of the rent for September.

Anyone need a place to live starting in September? Talk to me.

Set your music device of choice to shuffle and for each question press play and use that song's title as the answer. Don't give in to the temptation to switch songs!

(Note: I followed Annie’s example and did this: I have a whole lot of instrumental stuff, so I gave myself an exemption if one of those pieces came up, because these questions work much better if the answers have, like, words.)

1. How does the world see me right now? Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
I want to be a lion
Everybody wants to pass as cats
We all want to be big big stars,
but we got different reasons for that
Believe in me because I don't believe in anything
and I want to be someone to believe
(Miaow?)

2. Will I have a happy life? Sympathetic Character - Alanis Morissette
you were my keeper
you were my anchor
you were my family
you were my saviour
and therein lay the issue
and therein lay the problem
(Erm…someone give me anti-depressants!)

3. What do my friends think of me? Bad - U2
If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken sky and burning flag
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

4. Do people secretly lust after me? Freakshow - Ani DiFranco
Life in the circus ain't easy
But the folks on the outside don't know
The tent goes up and the tent comes down
And all that they see is the show
And the ladies on the horses look so pretty
…It’s about freedom
it’s about faking

5. How can I make myself happy?
Sorry to bother you again, I just wanted to pop in for a jif and let you know that we have media in Canada too. In fact, we have all the media! TV, radio, newspapers and I think even the internet now. They’re just like yours, on ours tend to focus less on blowing things up and more on courtesy.
(Alright, already, I’ll stop blowing things up!)

6. What should I do with my life? Scene Two - Draculette, by Maselli
In the end she will rule,
for with nothing to lose
her surrender to the void is no sacrifice,
and there is nothing she will not embrace,
and everything she will undertake
(Now it’s advocating murder? See the rest of the opera is about how Draculette murders her creator, the Maestro and the Tenor and runs off with the Diva. Ohhhh, no! It’s telling me I’m a lesbian with a singer fetish.)

7. Will I ever have children? Open Up - Dispatch
so they took me down to the gallows
and this boy he say to me
why do you smile when the rope's around your neck?
(And his name will be Joshua. I kind of wanted the girl to come first though. Alternatively, the other lyrics I could have picked from this song are “open up, we’re coming inside.” What does that tell you?)

8. What is some good advice for me? Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits
You step inside but you don't see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down…
He can play honky tonk just like anything
Saving it up for Friday night…
And the Sultans played Creole
(On Friday nights don’t get rained on when I could be listening to Creole Honkytonk? Very good advice, I agree.)

9. How will I be remembered? Sur Tes Pas Nous Nous Pressons Nous! - Carmen, by Bizet
Carmen! sur tes pas nous nous pressons tous!
Carmen! sois gentille, au moins réponds-nous,
et dis-nous quel jour tu nous aimeras!
Carmen, dis-nous quel jour tu nous aimeras!

Roughly translated as:
Carmen! In your footsteps we press ourselves.
Carmen! Be kind, at the very least respond to us
and tell us when you will love us!
Carmen, tell us when you will love us!

10. What's my signature dancing song? Closer - NIN
You can help my isolation...
You can help the hate that it brings
You can help my absence of faith...
You can help my everything…
You get me closer to God

11. What's my current theme song? Breathing - Lifehouse
I'm finding my way back to sanity, again
Though I don't really know what
I am gonna do when I get there
Take a breath and hold on tight
Spin around one more time
And gracefully fall back in the arms of grace
(Reasonably accurate, if a little slow tempo for a theme song.)

12. What do others think is my current theme song? Is There Something I Should Know - Great Big Sea
We can keep on talking, you know I've got all night
But don't keep telling me, that everything's all right...
I'm leaving you tomorrow, can't you see
This is how it's got to be,
in the morning I must go...
So let's take a little time, see what's on your mind
Is there something I should know?
(Well no farking wonder I keep having four hour conversations with people.)

13. What shall they play at my funeral? Thru The Eyes Of A Ruby - Smashing Pumpkins
And with this ring I wed thee true
And with this ring I wed thee now
And with this ring I play so dead
(Why not have a little morbid humour to go along with my funeral? You know what would be even cooler though? The descending-to-hell final aria in Don Giovanni! That’s what I want. grin.)

14. What type of wo/men do I like? You’re Gonna Have To Serve Somebody - Bob Dylan
But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.
(Ironically this really was the first song that came up here. And if you substitute “woman” for devil and “man” for lord…)

15. How's my love life? The Battle of Evermore - Led Zeppelin
Queen of Light took her bow,
And then she turned to go,
The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom,
And walked the night alone.
(You tell me if that means the queen and the prince got together or if it means that I’m alone.)

Summary:
Soooo I got lazy. Here! If you have read this far, make your own summary for me and post it in the comments. *g*

And in the book I finished last night, the most absurdly poetic description of morning breath that I've encountered:
"Upon waking I tasted the morning in my mouth." Do you have more absurd ones?

Also I just upgraded to the subscribed lj thing, so if you have icons for me I'd be very grateful.

EDIT: Hours later. Being bored, lazy, cabin feverish but having cold feet and not wanting to go outside is sad.
