11 gunmen were killed in a combined Iraq-U.S. operation in Baiji suburb of Salah al-Din province, a police source said on Saturday.
"Iraqi forces, supported by U.S. troops, conducted on Saturday an airborne operation in the two villages of al-Salam and al-Mashaheef, west of Baiji city - 200 km north of Baghdad," the source told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI) on condition of anonymity.
"The forces engaged with armed groups that employed locations in these villages as safe houses, killing 11 gunmen, and devastating four cars that they used in their operations," he added.
The source proceeded, "One gunman, with an explosive belt, blew himself up on a group of U.S. soldiers, wounding five of them."
He explained that the combined forces seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunitions, asserting that there were no casualties among the Iraqi troops.
The U.S. side did not yet comment on this issue.
