A Tribute to Chris Rix

We are gathered here today to pay tribute to what, by some definitions, may be the best quarter back in the history of Florida State Football. This man, statistically, can be ranked among the best. He is ranked second among quarter backs in FSUs history for career passing yards, tied for second on career completions, second for career touchdowns, and has the best rate of interceptions per attempt since the year 1989. He was the first freshman quarterback to have more than 2,500 yards passing and started all 12 games his freshman year. On paper, this all looks good. The truth is it is not.

This quarter back has five consecutive losses to Miami. His sophomore year he lost the opening game to Notre Dame. He contributed to the loss of North Carolina for the first time in years, the score was 59-10. There was the loss of the 2001 homecoming game to NC State, the only homecoming game lost in recent history. Also in 2001, Florida State lost the ACC title because of him. Throughout his years at Florida State, there was one consistency in his playing, and that was his inconsistency. So tonight, we pay tribute to you, Chris Rix, who may go down in history as the worst quarter back in FSU history.
