Wow... a post... yes, I am alive, but I have been busy with other pursuits:
1. Contemplating my consumer behaviour, specifically, whether being a vegetarian is better than being an organic eater? Feedback here is welcome. I became a vegetarian out of environmental concern, as opposed to animal welfare issues (not that following a chicken truck along the road doesn't make me want to drag the driver out of the truck and shut him in the boot of my Barina with six other truck drivers to see how he feels) if I do not choose organic, am I actually making any difference to the environment? I guess I can rationalise anything any way that I choose, but I am genuinely concerned about the impact of mass farming on the environment, and I guess this should count equally for vegies as for meat. So without a resolution on this issue, I went out today and bought organic vege food to cook this week... my bank balance might suffer, but my conscience is intact!
2. Taking in the sights... I have done a bit of ticky touring lately, and ended up looking at my beautiful city from angles I hadn't seen before, or from angles that I didn't remember... such as this one, taken from the Manly Ferry.
Sydney and its immediate surrounds has been my home for so long, and I love this city, I haven't found one to rival it as yet. I am glad I took some time out recently to remember how great it is!
3. Meals with friends and family have been many and memorable. I will not list them all here in case I forget someone, but, I am glad LJ has been neglected in favour of these far more important occassions with people I love, and the fact that there was a YUMMY feast to go with it, well that is just a bonus really!
4. Studying... I am doing a course for my Masters called 'Business and the Environment', I have been thrown sideways by the reading material. Firstly the sheer volume of it, (three texts, a folder overflowing (literally) with material and a DVD -- ten hours a week wont even cover the readings let alone the assignments) and secondly the content.... the first week seeks to analyse environmental discourse... specifically with reference to the "limits to growth" and "survivalist" discourse... not at all what I expected from a business faculty... anyone with interesting suggested readings, please let me know. On a positive note, it is a subject that I am interested in, so the massive reading list should be easily consumed!
5. Thinking a bit about distance.
