Well, I did it, I got up early yesterday, took care of the Saturday morning chores and wandered off to Newtown to procure a Zucchini character... finding that I managed to bite of a chunk with some pretty serious chilli in it, the Courty became an attractive beacon. I enjoyed a beverage or two while I finished off Mistry's
A Fine Balance. And what a read it was. There were so many gut renching parts where you were almost beyond despair wondering how people can continue on and cope with so much grief. The tragedy of it all was unnerving, and the question that those with so little hope could carry on, was everywhere.
The characters came to life under Mistry's fine writing, and I felt that I knew each one, could picture them in my minds eye, and could wipe the tears from their cheeks, was a part of what made this book so real. In stark contrast to our society where people view politics as something that works on the periphery and doesn't really affect them, this books shows just how much politics is life. Lives were altered by political decisions, people were pawns in the game, and the chess set is the world. Only a select few had the power to check everyone.
I thoroughly recommend this book.
And this was the beautiful sky that chaperoned me home as I trotted down Parra Rd, note the dark cloud in the middle... all on his own!
