It turns out, I'm too clean.

So today produced the straw that broke the camels back and all hell broke loose while the shit hit the fan. Hmmm... I might be missing a cliche...

My recent rants on cleanliness and the lack thereof havent exactly fallen on deaf ears; I just didn't complain well enough. I pretty much relied on the common sense and ideals of sanitation to persuade my coinhabitants to pick up there shit to no avail. The result: a bitchy me and pissed off house. My grumbles only made them not clean out of spite and it showed. I took on one room as my own, the kitchen, and cleaned it to my liking ad nauseum. However, this left the living/dining rooms neglected and it got so disturbingly unsanitary that I could no longer walk through the room without wanting to a)scream, b)vomit, c) kill them. Angry, I posted a note that I was going to clean the room in 24 hours and you had that long to get your shit out, lest it be thrown away in my frenzy. Fair enough, I thought. It turns out that the house did not like this. Apparently, my cleaning or doing their dishes pissed them off. "you don't even give us a chance" said one housemember, "and get pissed off when you clean [after an unreasonably short amount of time]." (note: I wait six hours to clean dishes and only if the makers of the mess are home and sitting on there asses. I will not do Mara's dishes if I know that she is at work or Bekka's if I know that she is in rehersal. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt). At this point everyone jumped in, claiming that my cleaning and complaining about it was "Fucking retarded" and that if they don't have a problem with the mess, they shouldn't be expected to clean it. It turns out that everyone is too stressed to clean, as if cleaning more like an option rather than a responsibility. (Too stressed??? I work, have a FULL class schedule, and am in so much debt I can't see straight. Between the four of them, they have 8 classes and one job; and the one job doesnt take classes. Oooooo, Stressful)

Argument in their favor: Paying rent entitles them to utilize the house and make it comfortable to them; If they want to leave papers/trash/books/food out, then they should be able to. Argument in my favor: their slovenly ways was an inconvenience, nay, a personal affront to my way of living and I could no longer be comfortable in my own home.

I lost.

Kinda.

We know have a house cleaning day once a week where whoever is there pitches in and we tidy and dust and mop and what not. Also, you are given 24 hours to clean your dishes. Everyone will make an effort to put away their messes as to not offend me and I have to make an effort to not be cleanly for a week. Do you know how many germs can build up in a week of undone dishes? How much trash can build up in a bathroom wastebasket for 7 people? It's more than my sanity, it's my health. But if it makes the others happy, cest la vie.
