JUST KIDDING

fat cat got blocked again last night and was moaning in pain. at 4 am jason woke me up and oscar was hiding behind the toilet and wouldn't let us get him out.

thankfully, i had spent the previous evening secretly and obsessively reading yelp reviews of emergency clinics, including the one a few blocks north of dr. romatowski's clinic that he had recommended. jason called and it was pretty expensive for unblocking and boarding until dr. r's place opens... thankfully, because we live on the west coast and our families are way out east, calling at 4 am meant catching jason's mom in the middle of breakfast. she offered some advice and also help with money if we need it, which calmed jason down enough that he stopped crying, which meant that i could stop being the "strong one" and cry a little. he took fat cat and i went back to bed, where henry and i laid awake until he got home at around 6.

this place (animal medical center of seattle) is apparently very awesome. they understand that they are pricey, and jason said the dr. was open about pricing and worked out a plan that involved keeping oscar stable until tomorrow's surgery. dr. romatowski called this morning and said that he had gotten the fax from AMC and had already called all of his other appointments to tell them they were being bumped and had to reschedule! how awesome! i love this doctor. he is amazing.

so, here we are, both of us mere weeks from our separate vacations... basically broke as far as discretionary spending monies go, with two very expensive, transgendered cats. even though this basically puts us back where we were (financially) when we moved here, i think it's worth it. these stupid cats are basically our babies, and i know that jason and i would never forgive ourselves if we had they money to help these guys and instead decided to have them euthanized.

the good news for today: girl cat is even more social than usual and henry pissed like there was no tomorrow. there was a giant pee ocean in the bottom of the box and he didn't cry or strain, so i think that plus how eager he has been to go after the stitches (itchiness from healing?) means that he's on his way! of course, the tranquilizers and NSAIDs are doing wonders for keeping him calm and manageable. :) better living through chemistry and animal gender reassignment, i guess.
