I'm strangely easily amused today...

Goseiger has now officially joined the ranks of Lost and Wife Swap as one of those shows that I actively dislike, but end up watching anyway because I have nothing better to do. Nice to have another one of these, haven't had a contender in a while.

Is there anything I actually like about this show? It looks like it was made in the early 90s and sounds like it was made in the 70s, with a themesong straight from the 80s.

Yes, that's what I like. The theme song. I like how it tries to be totally epic, but then the orchestra couldn't be bothered or something.

Every time I watch this show, I feel like I'm 8 years old again and watching Power Rangers just because it was on in between Eerie Indiana and Big Bad Beetleborgs. Yes, there was a time when I didn't like Power Rangers, and it was when I was actually in the target audience! Let's see someone explain that one. Well, okay, I can explain that - now I like watching cute guys duking it out in spandex, and back then I had standards and also hated Tommy's fucking face.

There isn't really any proper eye candy in it either, since half the actors look like they're about 12 and the blue one is kind of ming. The black one is alright, in a generic sort of way, and caused me to spend a day watching BL movies 'cause I heard he was in one and naturally once you watch one, you've gotta watch loads. Oh wait, is that just me?

BL movies is another of those things. Nine times out of ten they're absolute shit and I feel like I've wasted my life watching them. And yet, if I see one, I have to watch it and all its cousins. I, glutton for punishment. That said, it is totally fun to track Kamen Riders through BL movies. I snickered quite a lot at the way Nago doesn't seem to have any other facial expressions besides Nago. And how Ryuunosuke has absolutely perfected the scarily devoted look, but can't limp to save his life. And how Arisada is only ever in BL movies and thus... shouldn't be in this list of toku folks, really. But the best part was Yaguruma, because he looked just like Yaguruma except all the makeouts were on screen instead of off. \o/ If I didn't grow to like the boyfriend in this show, I'd've totally mentally replaced him with Kageyama and been in my happy fan place.

You know what's weird, though? Of all the kisses I've seen in all the Japanese shows I've marathoned, that's the only time it didn't look awkward and lame as hell. The ending of Ai no Kotodama is the most goddamn fluffly thing I've ever seen. I d'aaaawed quite a lot. You win at BL movies, Yaguruma. You win. And so I should probably learn what your actual name is... Hidenori Tokuyama! Right. There's too many syllables, I'm totally gonna forget that. Oh hey, he was in GTO. I totally don't remember him.

Anyway. Honorable mention to Itsuka no Kimi He for being interesting. Even though I totally called that creepy Norman Bates-ish twin thing about five minutes in and they were totally missing a scene somewhere in the middle, my bar was low enough at the time to be impressed. Oh and hey, Arisada was in GARO so he is a toku folk. My earlier list is validated with relevancy! Also, maybe now I should finish watching GARO to see when he turns up.
