Opinions on Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure & Return To The 90's

I've been playing the Spyro games since I could tell my right from my left, and consider myself a die-hard fangirl of the little tyke. I'm not too much of a fan of the newer PS2 games, and in this journal entry I'll be writing about (in my opinion) the best games of the franchise, and my opinion on the up-and-coming game to be released later this year, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure.
Now, back in my day, the only Spyro games out where THESE bad boys! To this day, I consider them to be the best games of the franchise, as they gave Spyro his reputation.
(Yes, the case for YOTD has a fat ol' crack across it. I sat on it by mistake years ago)
The gameplay was fantastic, the graphics were - obviously by todays standards they sucked - but when Spyro: The Dragon was released in 1998 they were great!!

(I loathe this game. The controls are totally different, the feel of it isn't right and Spyro looks like he's gonna rape someone. Not to mention Tom Kenny isn't playing the voice of Spyro anymore, the role has gone to Frodo (Elijah Wood))

I know what you're thinking... it can't get any worse, right?
WRONG.
This is Spyro from the new game, Skylanders.
Thing is, they're not using the original Spyro from 1998. I can't fathom why. It looks like something out of Spore.
Anyway, onto Skylanders. Looking at the article that linked to at the start of this entry, only one thing stands out for me and is making me anticipate this games release in the autumn; The use of the 'portal' and toys. You place the toy on the plastic portal and BAM! It appears in the game ready to play. You can switch character at any time simply by replacing the toy.
But, don't take my opinion! Judge for yourself!
And I apologise for the big pic spam x'D But I love this franchise and only want the best for it.
