I am not a fan of the military at the moment
my sister and her boyfriend josh live in colorado. josh has three jobs in order to help pay the bills because my sister, keri, is in graduate school. hes a volunteer fireman and going to the academy, a construction/carpenter, and a navy reservist. josh was in the navy for four years prior to this and was stationed in Norfolk, Va.
ok now to the main point. Friday night, Josh got "activated." The only reason he joined the reserves is so they could have extra money. the recruiter said, "Theres a small chance you will get activated, but you can jump out anytime."
FLAT OUT LIE!
hes activated, and guess what? He cant get out of it. My sister is so upset. she cant financially stay out there by herself. He could be gone up to a year, maybe even 2 years. 2 YEARS! there are people in the colorado reserves with him that have been in it for FOUR YEARS and havnt been activated but he joins and in two weeks hes activated!!! WHAT? that doesnt make sense. absolutely fucking doesnt not make sense.
My sister may be coming back to live with my family, which is fine by me because her being so far away makes it hard for her to come back for things such as my senior recital, variety show, graduation, all-state concerts...
its a bittersweet deal because on one side, i want my sister to come back home, but not under these circumstances. not without josh.
i dont know whats going to happen and im scared for josh. he gets transferred to norfolk the 31st of Jan and then moves to Williamsburg until March where he will then be transferred "overseas." "Overseas" could be anywhere...and hes been told not to pack a seabag which means he'll be on land. if he has to go to Iraq...
i dunno. its so hard. we shouldnt be in that war in the first place...
and now they're breaking apart another family.
