Just got a story idea.
Radio astronomers discover an artificial signal coming from space. Not only is the signal uniform and nonrandom in nature, the audio contents of the signal seem to be in some sort of spoken language. The discovery throws the entire world into a hype about the first evidence of extraterrestrial life, but the scientists know something is wrong--the signal's origin is in a completely empty area of sky, and the message is apparently repeating itself over and over. The chilling truth is discovered when one of the scientists notices the message's resemblance to an obscure Earth language, translates it, and finds out that it is somehow a radio signal from Earth's own future, describing an apocalyptic war that took place and wiped out almost all of humanity.
