(no subject)

Well, I wanted to tell Adam about this plot idea I had last night, but he was going to bed, so he told me to LJ it. So I will. And no, unlike MOST of my plot ideas, this one does not involve mecha. ;)

It takes place in a fantasy world consisting of vast, grassy plains. There are probably other things beyond the plains, but that's not what my story is concerned about. On the plains are small farming villages...and a band of traveling raiders, the Plainsmen. They're sort of like land Vikings, but they use giant birds as beasts (birds?) of burden and battle steeds, and travel in caravans of large, heavily armored wagons, plundering any villages they come across before going back to their great hall to celebrate. They would be considered primitive by our standards because they have limited technology (they mostly work with wood and iron) and no numerical system or concept of trade, preferring to hunt, farm, and raid villages for things they want. They also believe heavily in magic and luck. Plainsmen could be considered their own separate race, because they have innate ESP, and Plainsmen babies are born with blue markings on their faces that stay there for their entire lives and glow whenever they are using ESP. They also have unusually high physical strength, and unusually low intelligence--not to say they're idiots, just a little dim-witted.

Centuries earlier, the Plainsmen captured and enslaved the entire race of Mars (singular: Mar), ornithomimid-like beings with their own sophisticated culture revolving around mathematics and business. However, the relationship soon turned out to be mutually beneficial, because the Mars handle the Plainsmen's economy (mostly dividing up spoils after a raid), chart and navigate the plains during expeditions (it's very easy to get lost around there) and serve as companions to higher-ranking individuals (sort of intellectual bodyguards and assistants), while the Plainsmen treat the Mars with utmost respect and give them a safe place to live (they were always getting picked on by wild animals because of their lack of natural defense and peaceable nature).

The story revolves around Pashta, the 9-year-old daughter of the chieftain of the Plainsmen, and her Mar, a young female named Haga. Pashta has no awareness that the Plainsmen's raids are wrong (but she's never been on one, just heard the glorified stories from her father) and likes to spend her days exploring the fields around the Great Hall.

I haven't really figured out what's going to happen from there, it was just fun making this up. XD
