Because they are the most epic bromance I have ever seen on TV.
This is dedicated to
surfingthe_sun. TYSM for introducing me to Merlin, you have made me a very happy girl. 8D
Merlin: Hey, come on, that's enough.
Arthur: What?
Merlin: You've had your fun, my friend.
Arthur: Do I know you?
Merlin: Uh, I'm Merlin.
Arthur: So I don't know you.
Merlin: No.
Arthur: Yet, you called me 'friend'.
Merlin: That was my mistake.
Arthur: Yes, I think so.
Merlin: Yeah, I'll never have a friend who could be such an ass.
Arthur: Or I one who could be so stupid.
Dragon: Without you, Arthur will never succeed.
Merlin: No, you've got this wrong.
Dragon: There is no right or wrong. Only what is and what isn't.
Merlin: But I'm serious! If anybody wants to kill him, they can go ahead. In fact, I'll give them a hand.
Dragon: No one can choose their destiny, or escape from it.
Merlin: No...no, there must be another Arthur, because this one's an idiot.
Dragon: Perhaps it's your destiny to change that.
Merlin: I know I'm just a servant, and my word doesn't count for anything. I wouldn't lie to you. I swear it's true.
Arthur: Then I believe you.
Merlin: It was me. It was me who used magic to cure Gwen's father. Gwen is not the sorcerer, I am.
King: Then arrest him.
Arthur: Father, please, I can't allow this. This is madness! There's no way Merlin is a sorcerer.
King: Did you not hear him? He admitted it.
Arthur: He saved my life, remember?
King: Why should he fabricate such a story?
Arthur: As Gaius says, he's got a grave, mental disease. He's in love. With Gwen.
Merlin: I am not.
Arthur: Yes you are. I saw you yesterday with that flower she gave you.
Merlin: I'm not in love with her.
Arthur: It's allllllright. You can admit it.
Merlin: I don't even think of her like that!
Arthur: Merlin is a wonder, but the wonder is that he's such an idiot! There's no way he's a sorcerer.
King: Why do you care so much? The boy is just a servant.
Arthur: He knew the danger he was putting himself. He knew what would happen if he drank from that goblet but he did it anyway. He saved my life.
Merlin: I understand I have you to thank for that.
Arthur: Yeah, well, it was nothing. A half-decent servant is hard to come by. Was only dropping by to make sure you were alright.
Merlin: Can you remember anything?
Arthur: Oh... oh, my head. There was a girl, Sophia, I asked my father something, I asked him... What was I thinking?!
Merlin: Well, we did wonder, especially when you eloped with her last night.
Arthur: I did what?!
Gaius: Merlin had to bring you back to Camelot.
Arthur: I don't recall any of this!
Gaius: Must have been some blow.
Arthur: What blow?
Merlin: Well, when I caught up with you, I couldn't persuade you to return; you were beyond reason. So I had to make you.
Arthur: You managed to knock me out.
Merlin: Yep. With a lump of wood.
Gaius: He only did it to bring you back safely.
Arthur: No one can know about this, any of it, is that understood?
Arthur: Is there any bread... What was that?
Merlin: What?
Arthur: There was a sound.
Merlin: Was there?
Arthur: What IS that? Can't you hear it?
Merlin: I can't hear anything.
Arthur: Are you deaf? It's like a jangling sound.
Merlin: There! I thought I saw something.
Arthur: What was that?
Merlin: What was what?
Arthur: A different sound. Like a splash.
Merlin: Bread?
Merlin: I'm going back.
Arthur: Of course.
Merlin: It's been a honour serving you.
Arthur: You'll be coming back.
Merlin: She's my mother, I've got to look after her before anyone else. You understand it?
Arthur: I'd do exactly the same. Well, you've been terrible, really, I mean, the worst servant I've ever had.
Merlin: Thank you, sire.
Arthur: Merlin, good luck.
Arthur: I'd ask you for money, but I know you don't have any.
Merlin: Arthur!
Arthur: Put the sword down, you look ridiculous.
Merlin: Thank you, I know you didn't have to come.
Will: Why are you defending him so much anyway?
Merlin: Because he's my friend.
Merlin: Things just... changed.
Arthur: Come on, just stop trying to be interesting, tell me.
Merlin: I just didn't fit in anymore. I wanted to find somewhere where I did.
Merlin's Mother: Arthur must care a lot for you.
Merlin: Arthur would do the same thing for any village.
Merlin's Mother: It's more than that, he's there for you.
Merlin: I'm just his servant.
Merlin's Mother: Give him more credit than that, he likes you.
Gwen: Why do you think he came here?
Morgana: Same reason we did; Merlin. Arthur acts like he doesn't care but he wouldn't be here if he didn't.
Merlin's Mother: You have to go Merlin. You belong to Arthur's side. I've seen how much he needs you. How much you need him. You're like two sides of the same coin.
Arthur: Merlin.
Merlin: I'm sorry.
Arthur: I thought I told you to stay at home.
Merlin: What if I drink from mine first. Then if it's not poison, I'll then drink yours.
Arthur: He said each of us is only allowed to drink from a single goblet. I'd no idea you were so keen to die for me.
Merlin: Trust me, I can hardly believe it myself.
Arthur: I'm glad you're here, Merlin.
Merlin: I've got it. We pour all the liquid into one goblet, and then we can be sure it's poison. Then all the liquid can be drunk, and it can be from a single goblet.
Arthur: You never cease to surprise me. You're a lot smarter than you look.
Merlin: Is that actually a compliment?
Arthur: Look out. [points behind Merlin, and quickly pours the drink]
Merlin: No, I will drink it!
Arthur: As if I'd let you.
Merlin: You can't die, this isn't your destiny.
Arthur: Seems you're wrong again.
Merlin: Listen to me.
Arthur: You know me, Merlin. I never listen to you. [drinks the liquid]
Merlin: He can't die. It is my destiny - to protect him. We haven't done all the things we're meant to do.
Gaius: That is the lament of all men.
Merlin: Gaius, he's my friend.
Merlin: I willingly give my life for Arthur's.
Nimueh: How brave you are, Merlin. If only it were that simple.
Merlin: What do you mean?
Nimueh: Once you enter into this bargain, it cannot be undone.
Merlin: Whatever I have to do, I will do it. His life is worth a hundred of mine.
Arthur: I sometimes wonder if you know who I am.
Merlin: Oh, I know who you are.
Arthur: Good.
Merlin: You're a prat, and a royal one.
Arthur: Are you ever going to change, Merlin?
Merlin: No, you'll get bored. Promise me, if you get another servant, don't get a bootlicker.
Arthur: Is this you trying to leave your job?
Merlin: No, I'm happy to be your servant, until the day I die.
Arthur: Sometimes I think I know you, other times...
Merlin: Well, I know you. You're a great warrior. One day, you'll be a great king.
Arthur: That's very kind of you.
Merlin: You must learn to listen as well as you fight.
Arthur: Any other pointers?
Merlin: No, that's it. Just... don't be a prat.
Arthur: Don't worry, father, I'm not going to die. I think there's someone watching over me, keeping me from harm.
King: Maybe you're right. On your long journey to becoming King, you'll need a guardian angel.
