Rewatching 9-4 Slumber Party

I had a really hard time getting here to this editing screen… and then an even harder time finishing LOL.  But when I did, darn LJ told me it was too long. I have no idea how I can shorten it though, so I've divided it into two. And I sincerely appologize for the length. How could I write something so long about an ep I have so little excitement ( Read more... )

I don't know if I'll have time to read this all, but it's exciting to see you post it!

I'll have a little more to say on the second post but I wanted to rant for a quick second about this exchange:

DEAN: You’re going to read the books?!
SAM: Yeah, Dean, I like to read books… you know, the kind without pictures.

If I recall correctly, the writer of this episode said that these lines were originally given by the opposite boys, but that J2 wanted to switch them on the day because they thought it was more in character the other way around. The writer was totally fine with it but it's always bugged me! It doesn't make any sense for Dean to be surprised that Sam's going to read books. And I would have frankly liked the character detail that Dean was going to read them. Dean doesn't have to suddenly LOVE BOOKS SO MUCH and it be a huge part of his character if he just occasionally likes a bit of pleasure reading. Aargh! (Sorry to rant on your post, lol. This just annoys me; I think it's much better as originally written.)

Oh, YES! I never really liked this either. The other way would have been so much better, with all fans delighting in the fact that Dean actually reads books without pictures once in a while too! I didn't know the boys had suggested this.

It's wonderful to see your reviews again! :)

You bring up an interesting point here...

I liked the theme for Charlie in Season 8 - realizing that she is a hero in the real world, not just in the fantasy LARP world, and this episode's theme seemed like the complete opposite of that with Charlie wanting to live in a fantasy world and ending up running away from "reality" in the end

I think there's a difference, because the LARP world is totally make believe. OZ is an actual place, even though it's "magical". So, Charlie still gets to be a hunter, just not in our reality.
