Trying not to stress out

Nov 11, 2021 23:00

There is nothing new to watch so I am rewatching the Magicians yet again. I have The God of Small Things on my phone. It is very beautifully written but I am not enthralled enough to finish it in a day like I do with some. Any recommendations?

Did I tell you that my phone broke? Well, technically, the battery just died, so I could have gotten it fixed, but it would have taken weeks, so I decided to utilize my insurance and get a replacement. Unfortunately, I lost all of my photos from 2021 that I had not uploaded here already and I am having trouble with the applications. It is really frustrating.

Last week Wednesday was a national holiday and I also took a day off. Hubby wanted me to go with him to an entrepreneur group gathering at an outdoor barbecue. He felt that we could get some more business that way and hey, free food! And his friend and wife were also going too, so I decided it would do me good to get out of the normal routine - even though it is really hard for me to do stuff like that. The gathering itself reminded me of the gatherings I used to go to when I was single and wanted to get to know some other foreigners in Japan. Basically it seems like more than half of the people are just there to get hooked up, or are a bit weird, and most of the other half are involved in businesses that either are not beneficial or we cannot be of use to either. I met one person that just might use me as a translator... possibly... in the future. She is an actor who is writing her own script. I met another guy that was business savey and very interesting. He was assisting the famous Teriaki sauce guy (The Japanese guy that sells it in the US) and they were going to have some gathering in the future that he invited us to. This guy was an expat - his parents used to work in the US - and his dad helped the Teriyaki guy sell the sauce when he wasn't doing too well. Other than that, the event wasn't organized at all. We were all supposed to cook our own meat, but no one did because no one knew we had to. Hubby ended up helping another guy cook them and didn't have time to eat much himself. We came home relatively early because I'd promised the kids I would make dinner - Thank GOD.

Sunday, a voice coach came to coach us at choir practice. She talked about breathing, where to sing from, how big to open our mouths etc in order to send our voices out the best. It was quite interesting. She told me she had been in Canada and had gone to McGill, which is a pretty well known University there. She had been coaching English speakers for so long (she was on furlough) and I guess she was conscious of me being one so she kept reverting to English. We didn't get much practice done on the pieces we are doing though, unfortunately. The pieces are quite challenging.

I made some pumpkin cake and left it on the toaster so that it went bad on me with half of the cake still left. What a waste. I made some apple tartlets and pecan bars after that to make up for the lack of snacks. I'm making sure to keep those cool.

We have our Christmas presentation practice this next Sunday so I have to finish getting some materials ready. That is stressing me out a bit. This year's play is The Little Gingerbread Man. Not many kids are participating, and most of them are in my or Alex's classes so it's easy to plan and prepare which is kind of nice.

The weekend after that, I think we are going out for dinner to celebrate Audrey's birthday along with Alex's from October. And the next weekend is cookie making. It's almost Christmas y'all. We don't really celebrate Thanksgiving, but I have Japanese Thanksgiving Day (Nov 23) off this year. I will be taking a much needed break.

There is something wrong with our sink. It's leaking, but whatever or wherever it is actually leaking is behind a wall so we don't know what is going on. A repair person is going to come and check it out tomorrow so I've been cleaning around the kitchen. I have to take a whole bunch of pots and pans out of the drawer under the sink tomorrow after going for a walk with Hana and trying to get my exercises in besides. I may have to get up earlier than usual.

I think I remember telling you that I've been listening to cafe music as I eat breakfast recently. I am now listening to music at night and when I'm cleaning up. I found this nice channel of relaxing music. "Warm New Age Music that Soothes the Stressed Mind" is the title of this one.

It's the kind of music where I'm going, "Hey that sounds like something I heard before on some anime movie or rather... but is it???" It sort of gives me a nostalgic feel.

I can't believe it's already Friday. UG.
