Amen.
It's sad to see such an iconic place of worship to down like that but nobody was hurt.
It brought people together afterwards too.

More to be thankful for than to be upset about for sure.

I can relate to what you say. For me, my love of buildings like this is for the human aspect - the skill and sacrifice that went into designing and building them all those years ago. And of course, not forgetting the centuries of human activity that the great stone edifice has stood over - it's stood through kings, plague, the revolution, wars and centuries of progress. For me, it would almost feel like erasing those 900 years of human history to think of losing that amazing building.

I think the people who made it all those years ago would be boggled and proud of how long it has lasted😆 And history is never lost. It just continues, and changes. Our ability to reflect on it is still in tact as long as our imagination is. It is nice for the building to be there, but not necessary.

I do appreciate architecture, and that's why I feel this fire is so sad. The fact that it's a place of worship doesn't come into it at all for me. I just love really old buildings, in part for the same reason as you, and in part just to wonder at the pure skill of making it and the history behind it.

When it comes to all the donations and such rolling in to fix Notre Dame, I must confess I feel conflicted. I feel there are more worthy causes, and it's not like the catholic church don't get a lot of money in in donations and such anyway. I guess seeing millionaires donate so much in this case while ignoring cases where actual people are suffering is leaving abit of a sour taste in my mouth.
Notre Dame absolutely deserves to be restored, but I guess I'm just questioning the method.

Oh yes I agree. It seems hypocritical.

I also agree that for the sake of all the businesses, and tourist industry, and people who can appreciate it, the French and Parisians would want to restore it. But for their own sake they should restore it themselves. It's more about national pride and business than anything else.
