What did you think? I’d love to hear it in the following poll and/or comments!
Poll SPN 14-17 GAME NIGHTI thought it was a really good episode. I’ going to go back and look at the scenes before deciding for sure, but I think it will definitely be great or awesome. My heart was in my throat the whole time. I loved all the little moments with Mary, and Dean fighting 3 demons?? all by himself was awesome! And Sam fighting Nick was again gah… Almost DYING O.M.G Talking about dying...Mary??!!! :’’’( It will be really sad if she dies... but that doesn't mean I'd hate the ep itself for it. The suspense of it all was better than we've had in a while and I think it was made really well.
So let me go back to the various scenes.
First is the meaningful little snippet about Sam telling Nick he can "burn." Was Jack there when he said that? I don't think he was. But interesting that that is how Nick ends up. Would Sam (or Dean) be (or, have been) shocked by this as Mary says? Of course now, there is a more pressing issue... :( And all the more reason for Jack to think that Sam and Dean would hate him.
The idea of having Game Night was cute - Dean getting all frustrated with his game (that he used to love when he was a kid LOL)
DEAN: Sonofabitch!
JACK: I thought this was supposed to relax him?
MARY: It will, I hope.
JACK: You're here. I know.
Mary telling Jack that they needed it because they were all uptight. Then Jack telling Mary he didn’t like to be asked if he was feeling better all the time, Mary telling him that he could always talk to her if he needed it. I was rereading one of my reviews from season 13 where I talked about Mary seeing Jack not quite as family and how that changed - here we see how much she cares for Jack in all of the scenes.
Then they get that phone call and Dean and Mary go while Jack stays back to research the content of the message with Sam when he gets home (with the pizza ...).
SAM's PHONE: This is Sam Winchester, if this is an emergency, call my brother.
I really love Mary and Dean’s talk in the car as I love all of the little talks this ep. The family theme is on as they talk as well.
DEAN: Sammy sounds stressed,
MARY: It's not just Sam. It's Jack, it's you... I just wish there was something that...
DEAN: You're here, Ok. You're here.
MARY: I should have been here more. And I know how I am. I can be closed off and hard
DEAN: Yeah, well that's where I get it from.
MARY: Listen. I just need you to know, I'm grateful for every day I get to spend with you and Sam.
They find Nick, bring him back, and that slowmo scene in the hall…
Nick shrugging at Sam, Sam wanting to kill the guy on sight...Dean stopping him… This must have influenced how Jack saw Nick as well.
DEAN: Not yet, ok. Not yet.
Then again, as Dean “talks” with Nick, he doesn’t bring Sam because Sam might kill him just for looking at him the wrong way - this is all very interesting because Dean is usually the one that has to be stopped, but it’s Nick, and it’s Lucifer, and all that baggage.
I love Mary and Sam’s talk here. I got tears in my eyes.
MARY: Sam
SAM: Donatellow is in this because of me. A police officer is dead because of me. I'm the one who let nick go. I'm the one... What was I thinking?
MARY: You thought he deserved a chance.
SAM: Yeah, Well he didn't.
MARY: Sam look at me. Nicks choices are his. Just his. You didn't know...
SAM: That's not an excuse.
MARY: No one's making excuses, but you gave him a chance because you felt for him, because you're a good man. You are. That's one of the reasons I'm so proud of you.
Gah.....:'''''')
I really don’t know why they give in and let Jack talk to Nick, but I guess this is the only way they are able to save Donatello. Unfortunately, Nick is pretty resourceful and finds a way to get Jack’s blood. This reminds me so much of Crowley! So it’s not really that he was scared of Jack that he gave in. It’s because he has the blood now. Although, Jack with the angel eyes was really impressive.
Then Sam and Dean take Nick to find Donatello, Sam stays with Nick while Dean goes in to get Donatello awesome fight scene interspersed with Sam finding out from Mary (who found out from Jack) that Donatello had angel grace in him, not poison. So is Donatello going to be ok?? He definitely didn’t need the antidote but I wonder how the grace would change him. Also, question. Angels don’t have souls, but they have feelings. Can’t Jack have what other angels have with the grace he has? Does Donatello get something good out of the grace too?
Sam fighting Nick is a heart-in-mouth scene because I'm not only worried about Sam, but also Dean being in a trap with demons the whole time:
and I LOVE when he calls Dean with the car horn and Dean's reaction! Dean trying to revive him when he gets to him *gah*
DEAN: Count with me, Sammy.
Meanwhile Jack and Mary get to Nick by using his powers and stop Lucifer just in time, then Jack kills Nick. Yes, it is definitely gruesome. He could have just snapped his neck or turned him into dust, but he decides to burn him up - just like Sam suggests in the THEN (But he probably didn't mean it so literally...). And Mary is shocked but she gets Jack to save Sam first before they talk. I also love that whole scene between Lucifer and Nick. Nick so desperate for Lucifer to be in him again, Lucifer with his red eyes. I have this funny feeling that Lucifer just wants Nick as a way to get back and he would have dumped him soon after, just like that demon in Repo Man.
And the way Mary tells Jack that he needs some help was very gentle and well said I thought, but Jack is sensitive about it and the more she tries to talk to him, the more he gets wound up and worried that Sam and Dean won't care for him anymore if she tells them :(
The Cas scenes interspersed were good too. I loved him going to Anael and them finding the amulet!!! And Cas praying for help. I know Chuck will help them somehow. I also love their talk at the end. Also, I wonder about that curse on the earings. I wonder if Cas wants to keep track of Anael.
ANAEL: We're all lonely. Because we're all alone. ... Every last one of us.
CAS: You know He does meddle. God reached down and he brought me back to life.
ANAEL: So he saves one angel and watches millions of people die screaming every day. What does that say about him?
Anael tells Cas that she meddles because she wants to help. Here she talks about how saving one angel is not enough, and yet, she as one angel is helping many people too. God does meddle, through those people who want to help others - through Anael and through Cas, through Sam and Dean. That is why saving one angel is so important.
CAS: I'm doing this for Jack.
ANAEL: No you're not. You're doing this because you're afraid. Becausein your mind it would be easier to call God than to tell Sam and Dean Winchester the truth.
CAS: the truth?
ANAEL: Jack's soul is gone Castiel, and there's nothing you can do about it.
ANAEL: So what are you going to do now
CAS: Go home and tell Sam and Dean Winchester the truth.
...
CAS: Anael You know you are not always right. Just because God's not with us, it doesn't mean we are all alone.
ANAEL: Why because we all have each other?
CAS: Yes.
Mary…. :’’’’( I’m not going to be happy if Mary dies, and yet, I feel like she’s said her goodbyes. She was beautiful this ep - even more so than usual. *heartache*
How would Jack cope with having killed her? I have a feeling he will have a very hard time with it. Most likely he would run off just so he wouldn’t have to face Sam and Dean :’’’(.
