Poll SPN 11-18 Hells Angel
My thoughts -

That was a really really good episode!  On first impression... for me it was between awesome and great.  I'm going to decide which to rate it as later.  First of all, awesome title<3 And there was soooo much going on this episode!  I loved how they brought everyone together - ANGELS, DEMONS, HUMANS - and while Lucifer was trying to convince the angels to be on his team, Sam and Dean were also trying to convince Crowley to do things their way.  And they both use Amara's wakeup call to do it! The way they go back and forth between each was really good.  I LOVE how Crowley went in to try to save Cas, I LOVE how Sam and Dean saved Crowley and I LOVE how Amara saved the BOYS!!! I'm cackling I'm so excited.  Then the last scene - that was tear worthy. I can't believe I took more than 600 screencaps. Now, I'm probably going to be in the minority - again - since people were happy with Rowena dying, and a lot of people don't enjoy the angel storyline or Cas as Lucifer for that matter, and I can't say that I enjoyed the angel scenes as much, but I did like how they were used in the episode to bring everything together as I mentioned before. I love the surprise of Rowena back, and the boys were just awesome.

Sorry for the ton of screencaps... I couldn't help keeping all those different expressions by Sam and Dean :P

So first we have Crowley in the desert, getting a Hand of God from a guy who had made a crossroads deal.

Then, he's trying to convince Dean that he really has it.  And Dean won't believe him at first.

DEAN: I don't jig.
He thinks maybe Crowley is being controlled by Lucifer, but as Crowley points out, that does not make sense.  It was fun to watch Crowley in hiding, demons coming after him with an angel sword.  I guess that is the only thing that can kill him?

Then we find that Rowena is alive and healing Amara!  It's pretty obvious that Rowena just wants to be on the winning side, whatever that is, and to "rule with them."  She also wants revenge on Lucifer.  Interesting little story about how she came back to life.  Very believable too.  She is a witch, and one of the most powerful of all, so yeah, she needs to have some tricks up her sleeve for when she is "killed."  Wow.... Sam and Dean could use some of that...  Also important here is Rowena mentions the vessel healing nicely, which means that Amara is the human vessel for the Darkness.

When Sam and Dean get to the old warehouse, Crowley is bitching.  He so wants to get back at Lucifer for all the torture he went through.  I love Sam and Dean smiling as they hear how he had to grovel etc.  So Crowley and Amara and Rowena all want to get back at Lucifer.  Crowley wants to give the Hand of God to Sam and Dean to best Amara and Sam and Dean are just waiting for the catch :D

SAM&DEAN: IF?

CROWLEY: I will give you the Horn of Joshua IF you help me exorcise Lucifer from Castiel's vessel and then return him immediately to the cage.

So this is different from what the boys are thinking.  They think that Lucifer's power is the only thing they can count on to put the Darkness back in her cage.  So they'd like to give the Hand to Lucifer to do that first before putting him back in the cage.

Crowley says no way because Lucifer hurt me and I want revenge!

DEAN: Is this what this is all about? Your stupid ego? The fact that he dished you in front of a bunch of stupid demons? You're smarter than this. Come on.

But here Dean qualifies that they need Lucifer out of Cas' body so they can save Cas as well.  Sam doesn't agree, and they have a bit of an arguement.  As in past eps, Sam is not sure Cas will be willing to cast Lucifer out, and he wants to respect Cas' wishes.  Dean, on the other hand, doesn't want Cas to have to sacrifice himself for the world.  That so reminds me of Devil's Trap right now...

SAM:  This is exactly how we screw ourselves, when we make the heart choice, instead of the heart choice.
DEAN: OH, ok thank you Dr. Phil.  Cas is family.
SAM: Yes, and his choice deserves to be respected.
DEAN: Even if it kills him?
Crowley butts in and tells them he's not here to listen to them squabbling.

There is another problem with the whole thing.  Crowley wants to put Lucifer back in his cage, but they need Rowena and the Book of the Damned in order to do this.  And Rowena is supposedly dead.

Somewhere in here, we see Lucifer in heaven recruiting angels.  I'm not quite sure of his motives.  Maybe he wants them to find Amara, or to add their power to his?  Or maybe he just wants to take over heaven and it has nothing to do with putting Amara back in the cage.  I wonder if this has any implications in future eps?  ... hmmm.  Probably not.  But I still like it as part of this ep :)

LUCIFER: If it makes you comfy, you could call me God?

LUCIFER: He who hesitates, dissintegrates!

We also have a conversation between Amara and Rowena, where Rowena is trying to worm her way into Amara's "heart".  Then, Amara decides to test her powers to see if they are all back.  She sents her black smoke up to heaven and Crowley and the boys feel it on earth.  Rowena also feels it, and looks pretty scared by it.

Lucifer is happy because he can use the warning to get the angels on his side,

LUCIFER: This is just a teeny taste of what is to come... so... clearly my expertise is going to come in handy cause God knows what's next.  Ouch... I almost forgot... God doesn't care.

And the boys use it to try to get Crowley to see that putting Amara away is more important than getting even with Lucifer... But Crowley stubbornly sticks to his own plan.

DEAN: I think she just rattled heaven with the tip of her pinky finger, that not a big enough dose of reality for you?

So they are back to arguing with Crowley over how they need Lucifer to put Amara in her cage, and how it's not possible to put Lucifer back in his cage without Rowen and the Book.  It's when they are arguing this, that Rowena is listening in to the conversation and she lets them know that she is alive. I love how Crowley uses the same technique later to tell the boys he is in trouble!

Rowena lies to Amara about what the boys are upto but I think Amara guesses that she is lying.

Next scene, Rowena is with them and they are making a trap for Lucifer: I think it looks like an angel trap on top of a demon trap (neat!), trying to go through with Crowley's plan to just get Lucifer back in his cage after exorcising him from Cas' body. You know I also have to remark on how they use sound this ep.  The music, and the lack of it during the scene where they are getting the trap ready, when Crowley enters, when Lucifer appears etc.  is just awesome! Dean then "prays" to Lucifer and tells him that they have the Hand of God.

This was an amazing scene with those fires <3 I love the boys' faces, Rowena hiding herself, and the general suspense and fear that somehow this might not work and Lucifer would take the Hand of God (which he does, of course, but all kinds of neat stuff in between!)

Then Dean adds another spell on top of that so they can talk to Cas.  Cas seems to be able to see Dean, but it doesn't last long enough at all, and Lucifer is back.

And Dean's face you guys - fearful, desperate eyes wanting to save Cas, big wide teary eyes... while Lucifer tells him that Cas seems happy with the arrangement and he did invite him in and all... it just breaks my heart :'(  Both boys look so good in this ep<3 They are running out of time with the spell, and Crowley decides to put himself at risk to try to get to Cas.  This so reminds me of when he went to save Sam.

Cas is just happy watching tv in the Winchester's kitchen of his mind.  He's in his happy place :(

CAS: For some reason it has excellent reception.

CAS: That was Dean that I saw a minute ago, wasn't it?
CROWLEY: Yes.
CAS: And he wants me to expel Lucifer?
CROWLEY: Yes!
CAS: Well, he may have a more objective view of the situation.  Maybe I should...

But it's too late, and we see our original Lucifer <3 and Cas is back to watching TV and commenting on how they are going to break something if they fight - he's totally out of it.

Crowley is getting thrown around and he asks for help on his human vessel's forehead.

Sam and Dean quickly go to work to get Crowley out of Cas' body.  Love this scene, where Sam and Dean are desperately trying to save Crowley, and Sam is entoning the exorcism beautifully (I love how he is holding that huge cross in front of him!) and Cas can hear a little bit of it but it doesn't bother him much... And as soon as they get Crowley back, the fire is also out and Lucifer is free. I think it's significant here that  while Lucifer is beating Crowley up, he is telling Crowley that no one cares about him in hell. Everyone thinks he's useless. It's like he's ingraining him with the same sort of feelings that Cas had before he said yes to Lucifer. I wonder if that is going to influence how Crowley acts in the future. It will be interesting to see.

Lucifer sits the boys down (and Sam's hair flaps around nicely :D) and then tells them sorry boys it's time for you to go. He is doing something to their insides and Rowena is watching from the shadows but she can't do anything, and then Amara comes in! What a dramatic entrance!!!  The door blows into smitherines and she just glides into that room.

DARKNESS: Dear nephew... boy how you've changed.

And Lucifer takes the Hand of God and tries to send her back but it doesn't even make a dent!  Think about that.  I mean she took so long recovering from the angel smiting, and Lucifer with the Hand doesn't make a scratch.

Ooooo... and when Dean calls out worried about Cas, Amara notices they are still imobile, and frees both Sam and Dean and Lucifer looks at her like, why are you saving them? What kind of hold does Dean have on you?

And Amara looks at Dean with longing, which I guess Dean shares.  And then Amara tells Lucifer that they have to have a talk and just takes him away.

Sam and Dean are back at the bunker and its all bright and cheerful and Dean is on the floor behind the table (What is he doing??) and Sam comes in with beers and Dean sure has a whole pile of beers on the table.  They talk a bit about Rowena and how she thought Lucifer had a chance of coming up on top.

SAM: I thought Lucifer had a chance.  Apparently God power plus archangel doesn't trump God's sister.
DEAN:But if the thing has to be used by God's chosen, then maybe an archangel that got the boot doesn't qualify.
Wow... God's chosen... interesting!  Lucifer obviously isn't that anymore... SO WHO'S THE CHOSEN?? Sam? Cas? I can't forget how Dean held a Hand of God and it didn't hurt him... Could it be Dean?  Or BOTH SAM & DEAN? That would be kind of cool<3

SAM: Listen, um.  I know I came down on the side of, um, wanting Cas to deal with Amara, so...

DEAN: Well that's what he wanted though right? Besides, didn't we say we were going to swear off getting in the way when one person makes a choice the other doesn't agree with?

SAM: Yeah, um, we did say that.

DEAN: So...

SAM: OK, so, that's our policy.

DEAN: Which.. sounds damn good.

DEAN: Well, let's go find that idiot and bring him home.
Man... this part right before Dean says let's go find the idiot... I was in tears.  IT IS SUCH A HEARTBREAKING SCENE!!! The conversation about not trying to stop the other person from going through with his choice... I'm assuming this was at the beginning of Season 11 when Sam told Dean they have to do things differently, but they've had similar conversations in Season 9 and 10 - first by Sam and then by Dean.  Each time they saved each other anyway.  This time they choose to save Cas.  I wonder if Cas is going to be pissed :P

Meanwhile, Amara is having her little talk with Lucifer.  I like the way they switch scenes by Dean rolling a baseball to Sam and Lucifer being hurled to the wall. And now we know what Dean was doing on the floor. He was playing beer bottle bowling and picking up the bottles after a shot LOL.

Lucifer tries to worm his way into Amara's graces, just like Rowena did before him, but Amara is not buying it.  So she starts torturing him - thinking that hurting Lucifer will make God show himself.  And I'm wondering about Cas inside... is she torturing Lucifer only? or is Cas feeling it too? And will Amara kill Lucifer so that Cas is the only one left? Maybe we will have Cas next week.
