Halloween gift contents

I sent off Halloween treats to several people who requested them. A couple have written telling me they got them, but I did include some interesting tastes, so here is an explanation of each of the candies included:

First, let's take a look at the Look chocolates :D

As I've mentioned before, the Japanese people are stickler for seasonal foods. They are also very proud of their local produce. Here is a good example.

There are four rows of chocolates and each row has different contents. From the left row (open cut side up), Kyushu sweet potato filling/ Japanese chestnut/ Hokkaido squash/ Shinshu grape

I personally liked grape and chestnut best, I think. How about you?

Second are the little snacks inside the bag:

The almond chocolate pokey are pretty straight forward, and so are the mushroom shaped chocolate snacks.

I also included one of the sweet potato cookies I talked about in a previous post.  I mentioned that they tasted really good toasted - if you still have it left, you might want to try it.  Just a few seconds in a tray style toaster.

Two of the candies that have halloween packaging are chewable candy that are quite popular here - called haichu.

The two others are rather interesting ones.  The black one is made with black sugar cane sugar from Okinawa.  It's just a sugar candy, but the sugar has a strong taste like molasses.

The second one with see through packaging and a bit of red in the middle of the candy is a red plum pickle candy.  There is a bit of pickled plum syrup inside.  It's not as sour and salty as the real pickled plum so I hope you'll enjoy it  ;)

Let me know how they arrived! I am a bit worried that the pockey may have broken :P
