Tuna Crapperole

Growing up, we called it "Tuna Crapperole."

My worst memory of it, I was 10 or 11. The whole family was about to go for an after-dinner walk. My plate was still full of the creamy, noodley stuff. Parents laid down the law: I couldn't go on the walk unless I cleaned my plate. I stalled and waited, waited and stalled. But they wouldn't give in. I finally held my nose and shoveled it down, gagging.

I politely stomached a few bites 10 years later, at my future mother-in-law's home. Still hated it.

Tonight, I'm giving it another try.

I whipped up Bon Appetit's Tuna Noodle Casserole with Leeks and Fresh Dill for my (good Catholic) husband.

I'm scared, yet optimistic. Surely this updated, more-gourmet version can't be as nasty as the stuff of my childhood.

We'll see.
