Content Ownership In The Fandom Community
Call For Vidders!
I am a graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Masters of Arts program [Technology and Communication at the School of Journalism] and am also a fandom member, writer, vidder, and an aca-fan. I am currently conducting a pilot test of my survey instrument for a study on content ownership in the fandom community. I would appreciate if you would take my survey in order to help me solidify and refine my data-gathering approach. Any questions can be directed to me through LJ or by email at kimberlyFDR@yahoo.com.
Please Note: As this is a pilot study, the follow-up portion of the survey (if you choose to participate in that component) will focus on feedback about the survey construction rather than the topic areas being surveyed. The full data collection, with initial survey and follow-up interviews, is scheduled for Fall 2016 if I pursue this avenue for my thesis. Project Title: Content Ownership In The Fandom Community
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this research study is to gather information about fanvidders' engagement in fandom as a result of their fanvids, the vidders' understanding of fair use concepts, and the views of content ownership within the fanvid community.
Overview: You will be asked your opinion about the three target areas listed above, as well as an optional section to self-identify and/or consent for follow-up interview questions.
Duration: This survey will take 15-30 minutes to complete.
Statement of Confidentiality: Your participation in this study is voluntary. You may cease completion at any time and your answers will not be saved until your final submission. You have the option to self-identify with a name (real name or fandom name) and provide an email address for follow-up questions, but this section is not a requirement for completion of the survey. All data collected from this survey will be reviewed by the principal investigator only, accessible through a password-protected site where all survey data will be stored. The information will be summarized for a report that will be presented to fellow students, as well as made publicly available online.
Qualifications: In order to participate in this study, you must be a fanvidder above the age of 18. Fanvidders are defined as those who have participated in the act of vidding, creating music videos that combines source content from popular media through video and audio materials and re-purposes it in a new way.
