MY TOP 11 OC EPISODES OF ALL TIME

I feel i have a serious lack of OC related stuff here, so i've come up with my favourite OC episodes. I've written about some of them, others i haven't got round to yet.

1) The Model Home, 1:2
- Everything about this episode is brilliant, it represents everything that’s great about the OC. Those early days when Ryan wore a wife-beater vest and punched people, especially the asshole jock of a boyfriend of the beautiful girl next door, who was always at parties getting drunk with her slutty best friend, who the weird geeky loner next door was desperately in love with. When Julie Cooper was reigning queen of Newport, Jimmy was the OC’s golden boy, and Ryan had no where to go, coz he just didn’t fit in with everyone else in Newport. I loved how Ryan, Marissa and Seth came together in this episode, three completely different people, but somehow found a bit of themselves in each other. From Ryan and Seth, Marissa starts to realise what an ass Luke is. Seth, finally having a real friend, hides Ryan in his mum’s model home so he won’t be sent to a care home, and is horrified to find that he has the same taste in music as Marissa Cooper. And Ryan realises that rich kids aren’t all that bad… oh no wait, yeah they are. One of my favourite OC lines, and one of the coolest punches ever, is when Ryan says to Luke, ‘you know what I like about rich kids? *punch* nothing’. Absolute classic!! But a sad episode at the same time, when Marissa finds out her dad is in debt, and Ryan rejects her coz their from ‘different worlds’ and for once we actually feel sorry for her! I also love Seth getting Marissa to say happy birthday to Summer from him (even though he knows its not ‘til Wednesday) but this was before Summer even knew who Seth was. bless him! And of course every great episode has to end in a fight causing a house to burn down. Classic. Absolutely classic.
2) The Countdown 1:14

3) The Strip, (a.k.a. The Vegas) 1:26

4) The Risky Business, 2:18

5) The Escape (a.k.a. The Tijuana) 1:7 - How many times have I watched this episode? A lot. A lot a lot a lot. What can I say, its classic. Its one of those milestone episodes that’s just so important, like the Model Home or The Countdown, you just know that its important to the plot, that if you miss it, you miss out. It’s probably one of the most important episodes of the OC actually, so much happens, if I had top choose one episode to show someone, it would be this one. Especially as the end has such a climactic cliff-hanger, they’ll have to watch more. It’s also the episode where all four of them are together for the first time, and by the end of the next episode, they’re all friends, and you tell they won’t be able to go back to how it was before. Also this was Marissa’s first downfall, first of many, and basically represents her entire character. Its also a very funny and well-written episode, the Seth/Summer interaction in this episode is just excellent.

6) The Telenovela, (a.k.a. The coffee-cart) 1:20

7) The Homecoming, 1:11

8) The Mallpisode, 2:15

9) The Debut, 1:4 - There’s something special about this episode. Not only is it the first OC episode I ever watched, and the first episode with Anna in, but there’s something just so wonderfully classic about this episode, it sums up pretty much everything I love about the OC. Its Cotillion, when all the 16 year old girls make their debut into Newport’s society. Marissa is going with her boyfriend Luke, Ryan is escorting Anna, and Summer is stuck with Seth. Ryan, now officially a Cohen, doesn’t want to ruin his new life by fighting with Luke, so ditches Anna and stays at home. Marissa, confused about her feelings for Ryan, also stays at home, leaving Summer to ditch Seth and go with Luke. Marissa and Ryan end up going together, which pisses off Luke, who ditches Summer, who crawls back to Seth. But after Anna’s prep talk on confidence, Seth rejects Summer and goes with Anna, who has more in common with him than he thought. I love the line when Seth asks if he’ll ever see Anna again and she replies ‘well, this might sound I bit ‘whatever’, but I’m spending the rest of the summer on a sailing trip. To Tahiti.’ This, of course, has always been Seth’s dream. His face! And of course, as we all know, every big OC event must be ruined by a equally big drama. In true OC style, a fistfight at Cotillion finally brings Jimmy’s money problems out in the open.

10) The Pilot, 1:1 - The one that started it all. I didn’t watch this episode until the first series had nearly finished, but I think it really introduces the OC well. There are loads of classic memorable moments and lines, like Ryan meeting Marissa for the first time (and lighting her cigarette), Ryan meeting Seth and them playing video games (ah, the foundation of their friendship) and the theme tune playing as Ryan is kicked out, and phones Sandy for help. I still watch this episode a lot, its brilliant.

11) The Girlfriend, 1:6 - This episode got me hooked on the OC. Its funny, sharp, the music is great, everyone is wonderfully beautiful, and Summer kisses Seth. Perfect. In fact, I think its in this episode that you actually finally see what Seth sees in Summer. Before this episode she’s pretty much just a slutty bitch, but we see more depth to her, like the look on her face when he remembers her poem from 6th grade. Its my ultimate Seth/Summer episode. I also absolutely adore the bit where ‘we got more bounce in California’ is playing (fantastic song) and Seth and Ryan see Marissa and Summer, and Seth says ‘who’s winning, me or my hair?’ and then later when Summer gets him to lick sauce off her finger. That scene alone is why this episode is great. That and Ryan making out with Seth’s potential Grandma. And Marissa walking in on them. God this episode is great. But then Marissa loses her virginity to Luke, so that sucks. But still, Summer kisses Seth.
