Pride!

Jun 26, 2007 11:36

This weekend I went to Toronto for PRIDE! Parades and unabashedly being hit upon ensued. True to form, I will recreate this fun I've had for you all with brightly-coloured, bad-quality photos and uninteresting captions. Strictly speaking, these photos are worksafe, but...it was an event to celebrate sexuality, so.

Here's Joe and Steph, waiting for the parade to start.

The parade! There were so many beautiful people and that blue person smeared paint all over Steph's arm. I pretended it was because she'd been doing mischievous acts with Tobias Fünke.

This was later, after Chinese food. The first photo is of a hat shop with an Indiana Jones poster carefully hidden behind the reflections on the window pane, the second a broken orange juice bottle that Steph somehow managed to turn into a metaphor for life.

Miss Conception, who is too hot for words and lip-synced to Beyoncé.

Steph in her happy place.

Pride panties! And...us being slozzled (I found this fabulous word in the thesaurus).

We sneaked into a music room and Joe played a bit, it was lovely.

It was pride, anything goes.

This was probably my favourite part of the weekend, a spontaneous dance party that occurred on the street corner we were sitting on when these kids showed up and got all excited about the 'Heart of Glass' remix that was playing from a nearby bar. They were absolutely lovely people, hugs and cheek-pecking and dancing make me like you. Also they saw the Debbie Harry and Cyndi Lauper concert we couldn't afford to go to, I'm so jealous.

TIGGER! I love Tigger, he was so adorable and affectionate and giant.

We went to Sam the Record Man, which was closing and everything was 30% off. I bought Our Earthly Pleasures by Maxïmo Park on vinyl, an Of Montreal single on yellow translucent vinyl (you have no idea how much I love coloured vinyl), a Magic Numbers single (my first picture disc!), and a Mother Mother CD because of the reviews and they're Canadian. I'm bad like that--but it's a pretty excellent album! Then we skipped off the HMV where I a) discovered Art Burt has a new album out (WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS? I HATE YOU ALL.) and b) that it's CD of the month! Steph got it for my birthday, and I bought myself the new Polyphonic Spree record. It's packed full of glee.

This was my birthday lunch and birthday dinner, respectively. Penang Tofu at Salad King, followed by a cheese & cheese potato at Wendy's. Let me explain to you the cheese potato--it comes with cheddar sauce derived from a powder, which is then topped with grated cheese, all of which is all dumped on a baked potato. That is too diet for me, so I ask for extra cheese sauce and add sour cream and an oil-based hot sauce they offer for the chili. I will die of clogged arteries for eating these like four times a week, but eating these is the most fun I can have without taking my clothes off. The most recent addition to this create-your-own-heart-attack is mayonnaise. What can I say? Working at Wendy's allows for a lot of experimentation/getting fat.
And that was my weekend. In other news, I'm really getting into Battlestar Galactica and it's pretty damn amazing. AND I'm excited about this new show called Flight of the Conchords, though it's on a station that I don't get. It's about these two New Zealander kids who move to New York to form an indie-folk band. Could the premise of this show be any more perfect? Oh my god, where do I download it.

Since I haven't uploaded anything in a while, have The Fragile Army by The Polyphonic Spree. It's SO upbeat and joyful, you won't regret it. You may know them from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind--they contributed a few songs to that soundtrack. They also did the score for Thumbsucker, I believe.

...Oh my, the last time I updated was in early April. The last time I went to Toronto. I have got to start posting more! Or get over my belief that my entries are dumb and un-private the last two! Haha, they were pretty useless, though. One was full of things I like to pretend are essays and the other was about how happy I was to have won a CD.
