THIS Samantha Jameson was slowly getting a grasp back on her life. She didn’t feel so much like she was living in a fog. There was no great need to throw herself back into work because she could hang out with Jason and her friends and the world didn’t end.
Her heart still ached, but it was getting better.
Her parents kept telling her it would get better with time, but they didn’t understand. It was only going to get better when she spoke to Tim. When she finally apologised, and admitted to her stupid mistake. They’d lost everything because she had been too scared and stubborn to admit she’d been wrong.
Because she hadn’t had a chance to admit she was wrong.
The car crash happened, and their worlds got flipped upside down with Sam left on the ceiling while Tim slipped down to the floor. She hadn’t been able to reach him, not even sure how to when she came out of hospital with the belief he’d never been there. It was only now she realised he had been, only the news of Jason and Mac losing their kid driving him away.
He’d just never said.
No one had said.
Now that Jason had told her that harassing Tim was the answer, she couldn’t get it out of her mind. She’d left him that small note under his pillow after she’d stayed with Jason that night. She couldn’t even really remember what it had said, adrenaline and nerves driving her to write it. She was sure there was some dumb Simpsons quote, and probably something about her being sorry.
Then she’d hung out with Jason, Tyra, and Tyra’s new guy. It was like it made her realise even more that she and Tim were in the same town and they shouldn’t ignore that. If she could have a second chance, she wanted it. Neither of them were in other states. It was doable.
She just had no way to really track him down. He didn’ t answer his phone anymore, and even if she did go to Riggins Rigs she’d have to see Billy, and she wasn’t sure she could deal with the older Riggins even if she adored Billy. He’d no doubt ask her what took her so long, and Sam didn’t really have an answer. Time slipped away, days rolled into months and before she knew it she was here.
Sam decided to stake out Jason and Tim’s place. She knew she could wait inside, but she didn’t. She wasn’t here for Jason, she was here for Tim. And she wanted to get to him before he had a chance to look at her and leave again. Of course waiting for him outside meant he could just drive straight past and ignore.
She was just hoping the blue dress she’d picked would make him stop long enough for her to blurt out an apology. He was still a guy, right? Girls in dresses were supposed to make them stop and pause, and lose function for a little while. At least that’s what she was telling herself.
After the third hour, Sam wasn’t even sure how long she was supposed to wait. It was after what Sam would have thought were his working hours. It was before he’d be passed out in bed. He should have been home by now. Sam started to chew on her thumb nail and glanced up at the sky when she started to feel a few drops of rain. She hadn’t brought a jacket with her, or even her car. She could feel a chill starting to creep across her skin, and didn’t have any way to protect herself as the rain started to pelt down. Even under the porch Sam was getting drenched to the bone, and she still didn’t give in and go inside.
She’d decided to wait for Tim Riggins, and she wasn’t moving from this spot until he showed.
