On my way to work today, I saw a bumper sticker that said, "PROUD CATHOLIC". As soon as I saw it, I laughed like a retarded boy that was knee-deep in graham crackers. When I regained composure, I began to wonder. I wondered if the anyone involved in the creation, manufacture, distribution, sales, purchase, or display of said bumper sticker were aware of irony in any capacity other than that song from twelve years ago. What I mean is, generally speaking of course, pride is on the list of deadly sins that followers of Cathol are, as a rule, supposed to avoid. In fact, I was taught that pride is the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins. Lucifer's fall from Heaven was a consequence of pride.
Maybe I'm missing the point. The aforementioned bumper sticker might be a really half-assed form of penance from a creative priest. What if the driver put it on there to remind themselves and everyone else that, despite their best efforts, they still suffer from the sin of pride. I hope that there is an entire line of them. Ideally, you can get an "ENVIOUS CATHOLIC", an "ANGRY CATHOLIC", or a "GLUTTONOUS CATHOLIC" sticker to put on your car. The easiest one to find would be the one that said "SLOTHFUL CATHOLIC". Nobody that suffered would be motivated enough to buy them.
