Hiking Adventures

Hey there,
It has been ages since I posted. Around the end of 2009 was the last time I posted. And I really have gotten away from posting journal entries like I used to. It seemed to do me a lot of good at the time and I would at least like to be doing it more often on my own. And I will try to update when I can, but my journal can now be found on facebook, in the notes section...

On July 4, 2012 my Dad and I climbed Iron Mtn. I had seen a picture of the mountain at sunset (http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/7/8/e/8/event_123150952.jpeg) this is not the picture I saw. But just so you get an idea. This made me want to climb it, and I decided it would be good to climb it on July 4th, so I could remember when I climbed it.
My Dad has been trying to get me to be more willing to climb mountains. Often times with mountains I will only hike for about an hour and then I will quit, think it is too difficult for me and go back to the bottom. The trick is taking breaks along the way, at least at this point. A few days after Independence Day, I called my cousin Riqui where he had suggested doing it 2x a week. He told me about his friend who hikes 4x a week, which sometimes I feel like doing it more often already. But anyway, my Dad and I locked in on this idea. For the entire month of July we have hiked at least 2x a week. He suggested we do an uphill hike and a straight walk 2x a week. So we decided to give it a go and I really want to keep it up.
We are now into the month of August and still going strong.
Here is a little kind of time-line of our hikes:

July 4:
Iron Mtn
It is a good 6 miles round trip, but not too steep. You can see all over and the hike provides a good amount of shade.
July 9:
Lake Murray
This is also a good 6 mile walk, but very little shade is provided.
July 14:
Played 3-4 games of volleyball and walked about 1/2 mile
July 17:
Torrey Pines
Here we hiked about 4-5 miles. It is in La Jolla and right at the beach, it is a lovely place to hike, with a lot of different trails so you can hike a little or a lot.
July 21
Los Penasquitos Canyon
This is a nice straight walk with a waterfall at the end. If you follow it all the way around it is really long. I saw one site that mentioned it is a 12 mile walk. My Dad and I walked far, maybe 6 miles round trip. There are different places to find the waterfalls. It is kind like a long creek or something because it travels around the area and you find little waterfalls all over.
July 24
Stonewall Peak
I have been hiking Stonewall since I was a little kid. My Dad tells me I started when I was around 3-6 years old. It is a nice good hike, 4 miles round trip with a view at the top that is one of the best around. The hike in my opinion is moderately difficult.
July 27
Coronado Beach, here my Dad and I walked along the beach from close to dog beach (near where the fire-pits are) to this place called The Shores, it is a housing community just a little past the Hotel Del. I think we walked 1.5-2 miles round trip. It was a really refreshing walk =)
July 30(my birthday):
Lake Poway
Lake Poway is a place I have always wanted to go, the exit from the freeway to get there is in a city different than Poway. But you follow the street straight off the freeway, and it takes you back to Poway. Anyhow, the hike is slightly uphill and goes into other trails. Apparently, much of the trails are due to fires in the area. They are not man-made trails, but trails made by fire that had burned the path around the lake. Here we walked 3 miles. It is so nice that they offer many trails to choose from, we went up hill quite a bit, down by the lake, and around the side of a hill on the other side of the lake.
August 2
Iron Mtn
Here my Dad and my friends all hiked up Iron Mtn almost a month from when our adventures first began. I suggested this idea to my friends Michelle and Micah for a full moon hike and they went with it. My Dad and I were the last ones to the top, but we were the first ones down, so at least we kept up on the way down. Usually we don't really take breaks on the way down... =)
August 5
Tidelands Park to the end of Coronado Ferry Landing
It was really crowded, but it was on Sunday evening in the summertime -- in a beach city. Beautiful walk nonetheless.

Next my Dad and I are not sure where to hike, Colwes Mtn. is one possibility, but I would like to try other places first. I suppose it would be good to not let it intimidate me so much...
Anyhow, I have provided links on this post and you are welcome to comment on this post. You don't have to sign up to comment, just do it anonymously (but share who you are there)...
From here we want to walk Lake Miramar, Elfin Forest, Oakzanita Peak, near Cabrillo Monument, La Jolla Cove, and many other locations too -- maybe even Mt. Woodson.
Have a great August and at some point I hope to get in the ocean! =)
